Martial Arts-esque Kickboxing???

Does anyone know of any at home videos that would be primarily kickboxing-types of workouts but with a more "martial arts" sorta feel?

I am not sure if I am making sense. But earlier in the week I went to my very first martial arts tournament (as a spectator...NOT a participant!). I was amazed by their athleticism and jealous of their perfect kicks!

I was wondering if there were any videos out there that would capture that karate/kung fu/martial arts influence without being strictly instructional. I mean, some serious serious stuff. }(

Any help (or even if you could make sense of my ramble) would be appreciated!!

BTW-I do own all of Cathe's kickboxing vids, all turbos (again, not NEARLY the intensity level I am seeking, these are just fun for me) and a couple of random ones here and there.

The one that comes to mind for me is Tracey Staehle's Cardio Sweatfest. (It has both a hi-lo workout and a kickboxing workout). The kickboxing is VERY martial-arts-esque. I think you'd like it.
I love it.

Kenpo X hands down. I took ju jitsu for several years in my 20s & this workout is definitely as close as they come to real martial arts. Plus it's a major calorie burner, tons of fun, & you get to be distracted by Tony Horton for 45 minutes. ;-)

Thank you for the suggestions...and so quickly too!

I was so utterly impressed with the athleticism and precision of the martial arts students at the tournament that I went to....I almost joined the academy myself!!! Because my time doesn't permit for that, I thought I would find something that was similiar in technique and athletic style that I witnessed.

I will definetely look into the videos that were suggested here! Thank you!

**I am having difficulty ordering the powerstrike videos and I am feeling panicked!! I read somewhere that there may not be anymore???!! That they are no longer in production??!! NOOO!!!....

****running away from the computer now pulling my hair out!!!!!!****

LMAO at your post! It looks like it's available on collagevideo.com. I remember seeing a post here (old one) that included information about how to order other Powerstrike dvds directly from Ilaria Montagnani (instructor in powerstrike) Maybe try searching in this forum?? My kids take karate and I love going to the tournaments! I'm trying to resist buying yet another workout dvd! Must. stop. spending. money. Good luck in your quest!

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.:) :p

I've done all of the videos suggested and I've taken both Tae Kwon Do and Krav Maga. I do agree with Laura that Kenpo X comes closest to the kinds of drills we did. The Power Strikes are the closest of the others. But honestly, there's nothing quite like a martial arts class. Because like so much out there, technique is everything. Call around - a lot of the dojos have classes at all different times of the day - maybe something would fit your schedule. Just a thought. I love the precision of Tae Kwon Do.

True. I think kickboxing videos are decent as aerobic workouts, but you cannot learn martial arts that way. Even the better video instructors like Ilaria, Aaron Lankford, Keith Cooke, etc. cannot correct your mistakes or adjust your stances/punches/kicks/movement. KenpoX is decent, probably less intense than you'd like but ITA that it's somewhat close to a real MA class. In addition, one of the participants (Wesley, I believe) is the person you should follow, not Tony. Karate Fit, if you can find it, IS a real class.

Good luck - IMO the place to learn MA is in the dojo/dojang, not your living room.

I agree - our TKD school has so many different classes scheduled throughouot the week, you'd be surprised how easy it is to get to classes. I take 4 a week myself and get my daughter to 2 additional ones (we take one together). Somedays it seems I spend my whole day there, but it's great.

Not only is it great fun and exercise, you meet some really cool people. I would highly recommend it.
