Marathoners - I want to lose weight.....too.

Hi everybody:

I just read a post talking about how it seems a lot of you that trained or are training for a marathon gained weight. Whoa.....that is NOT what I want to do. I am 5'6" and weigh 162. I am training for a 1/2 marathon, but really hoped that would help me in my goal of losing 30 pounds.

Can anybody help me? What should I eat? Do more than run?

Any ideas-suggestions-advice would be extremely helpful. OH, I've been doing Weight Watchers for a while now, too, but haven't had the best of luck there either.... UGH!

Thanks. Marcia ;(

I think it totally depends on your fitness level now. If you are currently not working out alot you will lose weight while training. My suggestion would be since you are training for a 1/2 marathon maybe do your schedule like so:

Mon. 5-6 mile run
Tuesday: Weight trian upper body
Wednesday: 5-6 mile run
Thursday: Weight train lower
Friday: Sprint workout/interval workout (shorter but more intense)
Weekend: Long run

One day off

this is just an idea. Also I think that alot of runners like myself when training for a marathon feel like you can eat whatever you want expecially carbs. You probably don't really need that many more carbs then ususal!! GOOD Luck and if you have more questions let me know. I went from being a non-runner to running a marathon, now I run about 4-5 days a week (6 miles a day )and do Cathe step tapes as well (oh yeah don't forget weights!!!! cathes weight tapes have become my new passion.

You know, that's probably a good part of my problem. Since I've running a lot I feel that I can eat pretty much what I want. Thanks, I'm glad that you mentioned that.

:) Marcia
