Hi everyone,

Well I went for my genetics counseling appointment today and went in for the ultrasound. My doctor figured I was 12 1/2 weeks along, well come to find out I'm only 6 1/2 weeks! I knew I wasn't as far along as they thought because my periods are always out of whack, but I didn't think they were that far off! And here I thought I had the whole first trimester over with. They weren't able to do the test because it's too early, it was just a speck. So I'll be going back the last week in August.

How is everyone doing? Is everyone on track with their workouts?

Hi, Amy!

Wow! That's quite a difference in the number of weeks along that you thought you were! Have you started feeling sick or anything lately?

I'm still working out 4 days/week, mostly to Denise Austin's Fit and Firm Pregnancy, and sometimes my Yoga Pregnancy DVDs. I've been soooo tired today. I haven't slept well the last two nights. Hubby was out of state finishing his master's degree so I was sort of anxious. Part of it is my hormone level making me so darn jumpy! Oh well. Only a few more weeks to go . . .

Chrissy

Amy - that is a big difference. I hope your "second" first trimester goes well.

Chrissy - that is awesome that you are able to get in four days a week!!

The past week, I did get it four days. Two running days, One Butts and Gutts day and one Body Max 2 - bootcamp. It is so hard to stay up to work out after my little one gets to bed. She keeps staying up a little later and later. And we are working on potty training so about 3am each morning she yells potty. So we are up for a bit with that, which makes morning workouts pretty hard too. Oh well, someday we will sleep normal again, right??

Hello! I had my 16 wk appointment today and found out I gained 10 lbs. this month. WTH!! x( I have been eating more this month, since my ms has been much better, but not that much! If you can't tell, I am very upset about this. I have been regularly exercising, I did a Turbo Jam this am, and I am going to go for a long walk later. Sunday I did LIC cardio premix, and yesterday I went for an hour walk. My energy level is still in the pits though.

I'm glad everyone is doing OK! :)

Hi Amy,

Thanks for posting this check-in. Sorry about your dates mix-up. A similar thing happened to me and I kept feeling like I was getting sent to the back of the line...after reading about each week etc. it was tough to relive it yet again. They changed my dates a total of 3 times. The biggest difference put me behind by about 3 weeks. But 6+ weeks, wow. I feel for you! It'll pass faster than you think though. Hang in there!!

On Saturday I reached 24 weeks - yay!! Feeling pretty good but a bit of an energy loss over the last 2 weeks. Not quite as peppy as I was last month. Still working out 5-6 days a week, weights, exercise ball, bands, and bosu. I've incorporated walking, a weekend hike, and swimming in the pool or ocean once a week. Seems like the DVDs are tougher now. So I have to find other things to do.

Anyone else feel this way at 6 months?

I've experienced a big jump in weight gain too, always seems like stay steady for 3 weeks slowly gaining and then Wham! I gain 3-4 lbs over 2 days...just before my monthly check in. It's so annoying. But it's one way I know my baby is growing, that's a happy thing. :)

Hope everyone is feeling good!

-Steph

Marsha,

I wouldn't worry about it. I gained about 15 lbs my first tri, and have I have gained every week since. I think you're body is just going to gain what it needs to to make a healthy baby. I've decided to stop worrying about it because I can always lose it later, and what's important right now is a healhty baby.

Chrissy

Hey, Steph,

Month 6 was my biggest weight gaining month - 10 lbs!!! Another lady that I know did the same thing at 6 months - must be a major growth month or something.

I also had to find other things to do that were less strenuous for working out. I was walking until all these heat waves started coming through. So sometimes, now I walk in the house - up and down stairs, through the rooms and stuff.

A swim sounds good though! I may have to go find a bathing suit.

Chrissy

Well I haven't been feeling that great last week and this week. I've been having nausea, but I haven't been throwing up. I was so happy when I though I was out of my first trimester because I thought I was past the point where I would get sick.:( It's sure hard to work out when you don't feel good. I'm going to try to do Power Circuit tonight though.

Steph-where do you live that you can swim in the ocean? That sounds like so much fun!

Amy,

Do what you can. I had to stop exercising completely my first trimester because I was just so dang sick and tired! I remember breaking down and crying to my husband several times about how I was so sick and tired of being sick and tired. Right around weeks 14-15, I suddenly started feeling so much better and picked up with exercising again.

Be sure to listen to your body. It may be trying to slow you down for a little bit.

Chrissy

Hi Amy, I'm in the Boston area so I can swim on the north shore or on the Cape. It's about an hours drive but well worth it on the weekend. Honestly, being in water feels amazing to me right now, I've been craving it. So I joined a local pool too, it's really clean and not expensive. No maternity suit...just a bigger one piece for the pool.

I agree with Chrissy, I felt gaseous, nausea, bloated and did not feel great (or motivated) for the first 3-4 months. I did some gentle workouts. I was concerned with avoiding a miscarriage too...had one last spring. So be gentle on yourself and listen to your body. Once you get well into the 2nd trimester things will probably shift and you'll begin to feel like your old self again. It's a welcome switch!!! I felt better around 14 weeks too...must be the hormones normalizing.

Best of luck and let us know how you're feeling as things progress. :)

Steph

Hey gang,

I've been remiss in posting at the weekly check-ins - but hopefully things will settle down enough now for me to keep up :) DH and I are getting ready to move - so I do all the packing, he does all of the really heavy lifting. I'm just about 23 weeks now and this month has been a bit hard in terms of workouts - I've started throwing up the last few weeks after zero ms the first trimester. Apparently, since i"m shortwaisted and 5'3", my little boy is pressing on my esophogial sphincter and making food come up when i bend over or sneeze, etc. Still working out 5/6 days a week - but no more step for me! I still love all of the gym styles though.

Wow, Amy - your dating has been really crazy, huh? Don't worry, after you get to week 12 things really speed up (even though already thought you were there - hang on).

I've read that during week 24 your baby gains 6 ounces - the equivalent of a 130 lb. woman gaining 40 pounds in one week - so no wonder month 6 is a HUGE month :)

Take care everybody,
arancini

Hey Arancini,

You've been doing amazingly well with your workouts in spite of your body, kudos to you!

I'm so sorry to hear about your physical situation, it sounds uncomfortable and unpredictable. A sneeze? Geesh!! I should be happy that I only wet my pants when I sneeze!! It's all relative isn't it. I hope that the esophageal pressure subsides as he moves and your uterus grows. Hang in there girl!!

I had my 24 week (monthly) check in today. Looks like I gained 4.5 lbs since last month. Not too bad, but I hope I don't go over 5 lb mark each month. I've gained about 20 and I still have 3 months to go. Feel like that's reasonable for my size but don't want to go too far over.

I know, I know, it's not about the weight...that will be my new mantra. Just gotta let little Sprout grow and be happy with her progress. :)

Hope everyone is feeling good and doing well,

Steph

Hey, all,

I had my 34 week appointment yesterday. This is the first time I've been to the doctor and didn't gain ANYTHING! All this time, I've been dreading each weigh-in because I've gained weight every single time! And of course this time I was worried that I DIDN'T gain any weight! LOL! I can't win, I guess. I'm just so happy that this pregnancy marathon is just about done, and DH and I will be meeting little one in a few weeks. Soooo exciting!!!!

I did my Denise Austin again today. Fun fun. I may do some yoga this weekend because I've been having lower back pain lately. Yeesh! I love, love, LOVE the "down on all fours" position. It feels so good to take all that weight off my back, and it helps me breathe a little better. Ahhhh!

Chrissy

Eek! Sounds like I take the award for weight gain this month. From weeks 19-23, I packed on 8 pounds! Of course, the whole four weeks I was travelling in New York City and Europe--eating out every night, rich foods, carbohydrate heavy foods, very few vegetables, too many desserts. You get the picture. My doctor said that given the travels, the weight gain was not surprising, and she expects that when I settle down to a routine diet again, I probably won't gain as much. I do hope she is right. Anyhow, the 6-month mark is upon me next week. If what you ladies say about the sixth month being a boom time for weight is true, I could be in trouble. My pre-pregnancy BMI is 21, but already it has soared to 24.

Hey everyone :)

I'll complain about pregnancy weight gain, too. I am loathe to admit it, but I have gained 30 pounds so far. I am about 36 weeks along. I am shocked at the weight gain. Though if forced to admit it, I do eat too much sometimes. It's easy to do when you use the excuse "I am eating for baby and me." For instance, last night, I had a small bowl of ice cream AND a small slice of german chocolate cake. Shame on me. But oh well. I am having less and less of those days, as I get full so quickly nowadays. And I have bad hearthburn or gas if I eat too much at a time.

As for my workouts, I am still getting in 5-6 per week, but they are much less strenous. I just don't have the energy as this belly continues to expand. And I am finding ab routines much harder to do, even the ones out of my pregnancy book. I tend to use my stability ball and do simple crunches or pelvic squeezes. I find that I can't do as much cardio as I used to and have cut back on all the jumping. It's frustrating, but at least I am doing something.

I hope everyone is doing well. Take care!

Hugs, Erin

I have been away from the forums for a few days.I've been feeling pretty crummy (nauseous but no vomiting).I am not in the mood to exercise, but I am going to try later tonight to do a low impact cathe dvd.I usually feel better after I exercise. I can't wait for this first trimester to be over.
Suzette

Suzette, so sorry you're not feeling well. It'll be over soon so don't get too down about not wanting to exercise, I think we've all been there. I hope you feel better real soon.

Chrissy, congrats on the holding steady and no weight gain...that's inspiring. I figure we could all use at least one month like that. Which Denise Austin have you been doing? I need something fun! :)

Manmohini, your trip sounds incredible, I think 8 lbs is a good trade off for such an adventure getaway. I envy you! I'm sure things will even out weight wise when you're back on track. Glad you got to have a nice vacation. We're hoping to squeeze one in before the baby comes but it's not looking so good. :-(

Hey Erin, you're doing great for 36 weeks!!! 30 lbs is excellent and you're still keeping so active -- wow! That's encouraging, I'm glad to know that you're still able to do so much.

Me? I worked out this morning doing 40 minutes of KPC including some abs with the ball, I love that KPC flows so much more than kickmax. Great for upper body work. After work I met a friend at the pool for 30 minutes of laps with the kickboard and pull bouey -- it felt awesome! It's soooo relaxing and I love the stretching and feeling so light. I highly recommend it if you're further along and getting tired of the DVDs or just feeling like you need a nice low impact workout.

Have a great weekend ladies! :)

Steph

Hey, ladies,

Steph -
I'm doing Denise Austin's Fit and Firm pregnancy. It's REALLY easy compared to Cathe's workouts, but its just enough for me at 34 weeks since I get winded easily, and the extra weight is enough to tire my muscles.

Erin -
Don't worry about 30 lbs. I am now up 40 lbs at 34 weeks. Everyone's body is different and puts on weight however the baby needs it. You're almost there anyway!!!!)

Manmohini -
Don't worry about 8lbs. Vacations will do that to you, and maybe you won't put on as much weight in your 6th month. As long as baby is happy and healthy! Hee hee!

Ok, gals, I'm sooo tired. Time for bed!

Chrissy

Hey Chrissy, thanks. I'll keep the Denise DVD in mind as get further along, I like her a lot.

Since we've all be talking about weight and gaining. I found this article about the importance of timing in weight gain during pregnancy. Maybe some of you know this already...but for those of you who don't here it is:

http://parenting.ivillage.com/pregnancy/pfirsttri/0,,8nbf,00.html

The gist of it is that the 2nd & 3rd trimester are key times for growth and putting fat on your baby. It's not a good time to cut back on your nutrition. The article explains why, it relates to possible long term health problems.

So eat happily for the last 2/3rds of your pregnancy -- it's like health insurance for your kiddo!! :)

Steph

Steph and Chrissy, thanks for the encouraging words and support re: my weight gain so far and my determination to continue exercising. I appreciate this board so much- it gives me encouragement, much needed some days, believe me!

Today, I did BM2. But I modified it as such: I only did the initial cardio segment + the bonus cardio, then I did only the leg conditioning exercise portions of the Blasts, then upper body (much of it modified) and then my own ab routine, followed by the stretch. It was a good workout for me and not too strenous or tiring. I was proud of myself for making it through, as I have such achy legs lately. Tomorrow, I will aim for a low impact cardio workout, probably some sort of floor aerobics.

Take care everyone! :)
