Does anyone know where I can buy online or off those magnetic add-ons for dumbbells. For example to make a 15 lbs dumbbell a 17? That jump from 15 to 20 on bicep curls seems to be a bit much for me.
I got them at www.fwonline.com They aren't cheap - but I use them every time I do a weight workout. I love them! They're called platemates, if you need to do a search.
You may also be able to find them at a local store that sells weight training equipment (around here, there is a sports store that specializes in weight equipment and they have them). If they don't carry them, perhaps they can order them and you won't have to pay for shipping and handling.
They come in both 1.25# sizes (which would add 2.5# to your weight if you use both) and whatever weight it is that adds up to 1.25# when you use two . Remember to get two pairs of whatever size you get, so you can weight each dumbbell equally.
Going from 15 to 20# (wowza!) on bicep curls really is tough. 17.5# is a nice intermediate step. And maybe you can "trick" your body into thinking that you aren't really using heavier weights by gradually increasing the weight in small increments, like adding one "whatever half of 1.25# is" weight to the dumbbell--and adjustiing your grip so that it is a bit off-center to balance the bell--then two, then increasing from there. Bodybuilders call this "microloading".
