LAST EDITED ON Jul-27-02 AT 11:56PM (Est)[p]I EXPERIENCE LOWER BACK PAIN ON THE TREADMILL. I'VE BEEN ON IT EVERY DAY FOR 4 DAYS (ABOUT AN HOUR EA. X). I KEEP MY SPEED PRETTY LOW THE WHOLE TIME(3.4) AND I EVEN WORK UP TO THAT. ALSO W/ NO INCLINE. IS IT BECAUSE I HAVE "TOO MUCH JUNK IN MY TRUNK" BEING PUSHED UP, OR IMPROPER FORM? THE WHOLE WALL NEXT TO ME IS A MIRROR, SO I USE THAT TO MAKE SURE I AM KEEPING MY BACK STRAIGHT.I ALSO STRETCH OUT THOROUGHLY BEFORE AND AFTER.

When long walks were an infrequent part of my fitness routine I always had that low back pain with them. But recently my husband and I started doing long brisk walks 3 times a week, and by the end of the third week the back pain was gone for him and almost gone for me. From this I'm guessing that the walking brings into play lower back muscles that aren't as much used in other exercises and they just have to work up to having the strength and/or endurance we need for those walks. I was sort of surprised by this since I easily do planks and superman exercises, I thought they would be enough. Hopefully your pain will soon be gone too. --Karen
