Lurker no longer!

Hello,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I used to go by "Tink" on the original FIRM forum, if anyone remembers that far back. After all the problems and the split into all the new forums (YaYas, KBT, FitPrime, etc) I felt pretty unenthused to post anywhere. That was about the time I started using Cathe, so I have been a regular lurker at this site ever since. I feel like I know many of you, even though you don't know me!

Anyway, I have made some big changes in my life, quitting my job of 9 years and moving from Sacramento to Sonoma County. While I'm looking for new work I've been enjoying the extra time I currently have to focus on my fitness as well as some new hobbies. I recently taught myself how to knit and am working on a baby afghan for a friend.

My move to a new place and my temporary unemployment have left me feeling pretty refreshed and I'm looking forward to contributing to the Cathe forum from now on!:)

Hi and WELCOME!! I used to post on FitPrime too, until it became a paid forum and I grew disillusioned with the workouts. I had all the original Firms, and did them exclusively. Now, I'm a true Cathe convert!! LOL!! You'll love it here!! The people are warm and enthusiastic, and Cathe herself posts here often. She's wonderful!!

Hello snowbee! Welcome and keep posting. I am one of those that comes back and post every once in awhile and then I take a step back and just read what others post. It depends if I have time or not. I know what you mean when you say you feel like you know many of the people in this site. Odd but true...

Hi,

I'm also a former lurker. It was a long time before I ever found the nerve to post here. I had never exercised consistently before, didn't know much about it, and was nervous about asking questions. Not anymore. Everyone made me feel so welcome! Hope you will feel just as comfortable from now on. Welcome!

Shari

I love Sonoma County!! I lived in Santa Rosa for many years, and absolutely enjoyed it. My sister and dad are still there, and I visit whenever I can. It is a big county, and not sure where you live, but it is a very nice change over Sacramento....except for allergy season:)

Nice to meet you!

How did you learn the knitting by the way? I have bought several books thinking I could teach myself, and I just end up with tangled yarn and needles. I am trying to avoind a class because I have no time for that. If I could just get my aunt to show me....

Take care.

Dani53,

I live in Santa Rosa! I'm only going on 6 months, but I really like it. You're right about the allergies. I have been taking Zyrtec everyday for years and moving here has not helped any. Seems every morning I'm sneezing, even with my daily meds. It hasn't put a damper on the fact that I live in such a lovely area now. I grew up in the flat, hot central valley, so all the hills and greenery is really refreshing.

As for knitting, I also bought several how-to books, but the one I recommend is called "The Knitting Experience: The Knit Stitch," by Sally Melville. It only focuses on the knit stitch and it is so good! It assumes you have no knowledge of knitting and describes everything really clearly, yet in reviews of the book more advanced knitters also sing its praises for the nice looking projects. She just came out with "The Purl Stitch," too. Both I bought from Amazon.com. I've only made a hat from the first book, but there are a few projects from both books that I'm eager to try. After I'm done with the baby afghan I may try my hand at my first sweater (scary!). (I can crochet, but I'm not into that crocheted clothes look ) Though I can't afford to take any knitting classes, I feel like this book series is the next best thing. I'd also recommend "Knitting for Dummies," because I always think it's nice to have another set of instructions to refer to in case I feel unsure about one.

Well, sorry to ramble. Can you tell I love my new hobby? I have to add that doing a Cathe workout is a great compliment to sitting still and knitting for a couple of hours - gets all the kinks out!

Also, thanks to everyone for the warm welcomes to the forum. It makes me happy to be another voice in this community. :)

Thanks for the book report! I will have to look for those. I wonder if the library has them. I love Amazon too, so I can look there as well. I would just like to see it first and figure out how this book might differ from the ones I have.

Oh, I am jealous of you in Santa Rosa. I loved it there, and worked for many years in Windsor. My kids were all born there, and we still have many friends there. When I visit my sister, in Glen Ellen, we always make a trip up to the Plaza mall, or just cruise around. It has changed so much since we moved away, I am amazed every time by it all. In my opinion it is the perfect sized city, if you have to live in one. What ultimately made us move is just that. I wanted my kids to grow up where I did, in Tahoe, and live where there are no sidewalks and fences....although the fence part has changed up here:)

I really feel I have the best of both worlds. I can visit my sisters home which I call my "Sonoma House", and she loves that she can come back to her roots up here as well.

Take care, and hopefully the rain will help with the pollen. I suffered through my pregnancies unable to take a thing for allergies. I would take several showers every day just to wash my face. I would also force myself to cry in the shower trying to flush my eyes out, so I truly feel your pain. Another reason to move back up the mountain:)

I'm very unfamiliar with lurking, as I usually jump right in and start shooting my mouth off, but WELCOME!! I recently vacationed in Napa Valley and it was so beautiful and I had a great time. You are so lucky to live in that part of the country. Don't be shy, just jump right in. In spite of my talkaholic tendencies, I haven't had any negative experiences on these forums. The people here are wonderful, as I'm sure you know by now...
