Luna bar lover

I know they're not clean eating, but I love my Luna bars. How bad do you think they are? Here are the ingredients:

Lunapro (soy protein isolate, rice flour), organic oats, organic roasted soy beans, organic soy flour, organic milled flaxseed, brown rice syrup, cranberries, vegetable glycerin, roasted cashews, inulin, roasted almonds, roasted pumpkin seeds, rice flour, natural flavors, sea salt, green tea extract, vitamins and minerals.

The bar has 3 grams of dietary fiber and 9 grams of sugar (must be that brown rice syrup, right?) There are no trans-fats.

I don't think they sound that bad. Am I kidding myself? I never mentioned to my nutritionist that I eat them. Maybe I was afraid of what she would say.

THe vegetable glycerin (which is a sweetener) is the only questionable item in my book (brown rice syrup is a sweetener as well, but it's at least an identifiable substance!).

The flours may not be whole, but the white, processed kind (though soy flour isn't the same: I think it's just soy with the fat removed, then powdered? Or maybe just dried, powdered soy?)

I think these are much better than most protein or meal replacement bars. While I wouldn't recommend eating them three times a day, I don't think they're that bad.

When I need a chocolate fix, I'll eat half a bar and save the rest for an after dinner dessert. I've heard one protein bar a day won't kill you, but no more than that!

You're right, Kathryn. The "vegetable glycerin" does sound suspicious. I forgot to mention that. But as far as bars go, I guess they're as good as it gets. And they are so yummy! Got to try the chocolate mint.

Nancy,

I like Luna bars too. They're no terrible. I mean, it's not broccoli, but it's also not french fries lol.

Vegetable glycerine looks to be okay to me. I love Nutz Over Chocolate.
I got this-
"Safe sweetener

Glycerine is an alcohol (glycerol) and is used as a preservative in the food industry, as well as a sweetener: it is very sweet, yet it contains no sugar. This makes it an ideal sweetener for patients who cannot take sugar, such as the increasing number of Candida sufferers. Vegetable glycerine is said to be the "only acceptable sweetener" for Candida patients."

Yes it tastes like a treat but a treat with fiber and protein and that's fine by me.
