Lump?

Hi Gals,

I wanted to run this by, just to see if anyone else experienced this.
To start off. There isn't any cancer in my family but the way life is go'in these days...I don't think it as to be.
I usually wax everything for the most part.I only save in the summer time b/c you can't really let hair grow then.
Here is the problem:
Off and on, I will get a lump in my groin area.It is always on the left side and it normally happens after I wax.But it will normally go away again and I always thought it was a in grown hair. This lump as been there for about a month now and I sort of forgot about it b/c it did'nt hurt. And I thought it may have went away. I noticed last week that it is still there and I am getting reminded of it more often now b/c it is starting to hurt. It is about a inch and 1/2 long.It could still be a ingrown hair but I don't want to get to freaked out.
I guess I am gonna make an appt to see my Doc and pray that it is nothing.I am also trying to remind myself that the fortune teller I went to said I was gonna live to be in my 80's:) Lets hope she was right!
Any similar situations?
Lori:)

Lori-

I recall getting those in my groin off and on a few years back. I haven't had any recently. I'm prone to cysts in general, though. The lumps in the groin would usually go away, but I've had a bump the size of a pea on my knee for 2 years now. It drives me crazy. A doc made it smaller with a needle, but it filled up again.

The ones further under the skin are a little more difficult. If it's a cyst for you, it might be painful now because it's growing and pushing something.

It's good to see a doctor, no matter what. I'm hoping for you that it's just a cyst of some sort!

I've had lumps in that area too. I get them from waxing or shaving. I used to get scared because it feels like a little ball. I don't know if that's your case, but in my case it was from an infection due to waxing and shaving that area. I would say it's like a blemish because the pore gets infected either from whatever you're using to wax or shave or just because you're not doing it gentle enough and it's causing irritation. It can also be from an ingrown hair. Even so, get it checked out to rule out anything dangerous, but for now I wouldn't stress about it. Good luck with everything :)

Hi Lori,

You could be forming a boil which can often result from an ingrown hair and they can definitely be painful. Boils are usually treated with heat packs. Try applying heat to it. If it increases in size and forms a head you may need to lance and drain it.

Hi Lori,

I had this happen last year - a bump popped up right in the place where my leg joins my torso. It turned out to be an infected lymph node. I took antibiotics for a week and it went away. The doctor said if you have an infection somewhere in your body, it goes to your lymph nodes and they are trying to "kill" it which is why there was a lump. So..don't worry, but do go to the doctor!

Ouch! Just thinking about it it's painful. Let's just hope it's a minor thing for now.

Thanks Ladies,
This makes me feel much better.I think it as only been there since I waxed last unless it was there and I didn't even realize it.It may also hurt b/c I was sort of picking at it.Not with anything but just feeling where it was and how big it was.I will call my Dr's office on Mon and hopefully I will be able to get in sometime this week.Great...its gonna be like having a pap test again!x(

Lori,

I went into my doctor with the notion that I had breast cancer or something after having a painful lump under my armpit. I swore it felt like a swollen lymph node.

Anyway...sure enough (thank God)...it WAS an ingrown hair that had actually grown into an infection! He gave me an antibiotic and *poof!* I was back to normal in no time.

He praised my decision to see him right away, however, because leaving the unknown to chance is never a good idea when it comes to your health...so GOOD FOR YOU for seeing your doctor right away! If it is something, you'll know as soon as possible...but I bet everything is fine.

Good Luck!

MEECHER :)

I have had that happen to me about 3 times in the last couple years and it is always for me a swollen lymph node. The doctor gives me antibiotics and it goes away. he said it was from constant shaving and that the shaved are just gets infected from bacteria getting in there. It is very common and it can take awhile for it to go down. Don't worry I am sure it will go away.

Hi Rose,

It sounds scary, but believe me, lancing a boil is a very minor thing, albeit painful. Usually, if detected early antibiotics can be avoided. Small boils can be resolved with the application of heat.

Thanks again everyone.I also e-mailed my sister, who is a nurse and she doesn't think it is anything to worry about but like everyone else said...go to the doc, just in case.I should be able to get in this week, no problem.
