lower back pain and squats

I use 40 lbs when doing squats and towards the end of a set my lower back is killing me does anybody else have this problem?
 
I suffer from back pain, and usually have back pain about 24 hours after doing any barbell work. But I have never had pain WHILE exercising. Are you sure you're using proper form?

Check your form, it sounds like you could be rounding your back. Make sure your knees don't go over your feet. I have chronic low back pain and unless I warm up really good before squats, I feel a slight pull in my low back but no pain. Be careful if you are feeling pain, that is a signal that something is wrong.
 
Make sure to keep your core tight (like you're wearing a corset, which will help support the lower back muscles) and make sure the lower back keeps its natural lordotic curve without rounding or overarching throughout the move---though rounding is much more hazardous that a bit of overarching).
