Low Carbers & Friends - March 2011

Melinda! Congrats on the end of school! I bet you are happy that you can have a rest now. Or that you don't know what to do with yourself.

Tracy - a bit of advice - get more than one bid from contractors. We put our house out to three/four different contractors and met with all of them. Plus, you can't get a good bid unless the plans are completely done and I think that the plans need to go throughout the plan check stage with the local building department. (I'm assuming that the process is relatively similar to CA) Our stupid building department's engineer added about 6 grand of extra work for the contractor that ate time and money and which we had to pay out of pocket. The contractors were very different in their bids. The ones that are only generals and sub out everything are much more expensive then the generals that do a lot of the work themselves. Of course, the only thing that you can't judge before hand is their time management and the management of their crews. Our contractor is a bit of a whiner, doesn't like to work in the weather (I have to say that the darn bad weather is slowing us down tremendously, siding on outside can't be finished until it stops being so darn cold...err) Also, I think that when he was not on the job site, the workers made stupid mistakes (like they hung the fire door I had bought for the entry from the garage to the house in the entry for the outside to the garage....fire doors are about 50-60 dollars more than a regular entry door, err) and were very slow in their work.

Anyhoo, that's only my 2 cents worth, for what its worth.

Okay, I worked out yesterday for the first time since February! Whoo hoo!!!! I did Tracy's new Leaning out workout. I liked it!! Kept you going, can do it in the morning if I have too and had some great new types of moves. I am sore today and will probably get more sore as the day goes by. It was also all low impact type of moves in the cardio. No dancey stuff. I have a bunch of new older workouts. I'm trying out some of the Firm stuff. Like Cardio Overdrive. Not sure if I'm going to like the one I got called something 45, can't remember the darn name. It is three cardio workouts that were previously released separate, one I can remember was called Slim Down Cardio Dance. May be the only one I like. Allie is the lead in it. The other ones had Sue Mi? and Allison as leads, but they looked rather...hum...robotic. I'll give them a try at least, but they might end up in the garage sale pile. I'm too used to Cathe, Chalene and Christi Taylor for the awesome cardio leads. I guess I'm spoiled.

Okay, I had better get back to work. I supposed to prepping for a trial tomorrow. Another going to get my booty kicked. I just don't see how this lady is going to convince the jury that she had no idea where the money went. Bank statements don't lie. (Plus she has a prior conviction of writing checks off her ex-boyfriend's account without permission and the jury will be able to find out about that!) (oh and she has a current bad check case.....pfft... I love my job... I love my job........)

Boy, Rhea, you get some lulus  ! Good luck anyway - hopefully you won't get your booty kicked too badly ;)!

Here I am, school is on break. What to do??? taxes!!!! Yuck, we have to get them done this weekend before classes begin again.

Soooo, I got an A in my class! That was one of the hardest classes ever, I'm so glad it's done. And to think at the beginning of the quarter I thought I may not pass it. New class begins Mar 28, so have a week off still.

I walked one day this week and did a little weight work one day. I'm tired, not a lot of sleep this week. Busy day at work today. Will get back into the groove tomorrow. This evening is time to just relax!

Have a good weekend everyone

Hi babes! Hmmm, this site is not notifying me of new posts like it's supposed ta....

Congratulations on your A Melinda!! I KNEW you could do it! DH and I haven't started our taxes. :( We usually owe so we wait until the last minute!!

Thank you for all of your great advice Rhea! The contractor we met with was way overpriced so if we go with him, we'll have to do alot of changes which neither DH and I want to do. Or get an outrageously high loan. We ended up going to a local home show today and met with other contractors that we can send copies of our house plan to for bids. We do plan to get 3 or 4 bids. We are going to meet with one tomorrow. That place has their own plans as well and before the market tanked, wouldn't change or upgrade anything for you. They will now! I know we won't be able to tell their time management or demeanor until they get started, but I bet DH will watch pretty closely. :) Did they fix your doors? Our county also added some stupid requirements this year that is adding about $2,000 to our costs. I feel your pain!

And I have to agree with Lita--you get some doozies sometimes! Hope things didn't go too badly for you! I have that new on eof Tracie's too--Leaning Out, but I haven't done it yet.

Been working out when I can, but I STILL have my cough! I'm on round 3 of antibiotics and am not really happy with my doctor (I asked for some steroids in addition which helped me kick a lung infection years ago and he wouldn't give them to me. I just have to call tomorrow if I'm not better. I'm not better. Grrr....

Have a great rest of your weekend babes!

Hi all!

Medlinda - congrats on the A!! Whoo hoo! I have to still finish up our taxes too. I did a real fast look with them in Jan to see how much we would owe this year...eek.

Trial went as expected, she really was caught in lies, so a guilty verdict was not unexpected.

I'm so pooped. I was really hoping to start regular workouts this week, but I don't know. 10-12 hour work days on the weekend are getting to me (work on the house) Plus this week I will be sneaking in some time at the house. I can't wait until it is done. I'm looking forward to doing nothing....hmm....oh...maybe I should say I can't wait until I'm done moving.....

OK, we did our taxes. Haven't paid them yet, just got them all printed off. We owe big time. Had too many dependents plus, DS doesn't live her any more and the unemployment with doesn't take anything out. UGH!!!!!!! We had to get it done, because we will be too busy spring quarter with work, school and just spring!

Tracy, I hope you find a good contractor. And amazing how things change with what people are willing to do when the ecomony is down. That was good going to the home show to find contractors, you can meet a lot all in one location.

Rhea, you are so busy, I don't know how you do it.

I was so tired by Friday, DH left me alone at the house in the evening and I feel asleep on the couch.

Hey, Lita, where are you? I hope you are getting good weather. It was 70 degrees here today. Going to get back in the 40s by Thur, but not to bad here at the moment! I'm hoping you are looking at the bare ground by now.

I think I will do the 4DS series this week. Today I did the bootcamp cardio with the bi/tri wt work. Felt pretty strong, which was nice. The cardio didn't overwhelm me either.

At least you got a little break and warmed up. Still snowing here. They are breaking records in the amount of snow fall in Chester! We got 50 inches over the last weekend. I sure hope it moves on....but that might mean that it is coming across to you guys!

Hi, all :)

Melinda - Thank you! Yes, I am fine. Just a really rocky week . The good news is, though, I didn't kill anyone :p! Rhea is too busy to defend me so I have to behave myself ;).

Rhea - I'm like Melinda - I have never figured out how you just keep going and going and going. I really hope you can soon get settled in to the new place and actually - gasp ! - sit and relax in that new Jacuzzi!

Tracy - Hope that nasty cough is gone by now! Fingers crossed that those bids come in more in line with what you want/need !

Well, I have a cold :( going to try to get rest and vitamins and hope it passe quickly.

I didn't exercise Thur but did 4DS cario + chest/back. Made it through ok.

Lita, glad to see you here. I was getting worried about you.

Rhea, 50 inches of snow! Please keep it! We have temps in the 30s, but no precipitation. I think it's going to be like this all week.

Tracy, how are you doing?

I think we finally got rid of the snow! Supposed to warm up. Snow was nice and mushy yesterday.

Here's some pictures of the tile work I did. Thank goodness I'm almost done.

The first few are the master bathroom from different angles. The last one is the guest bath.

Wow, Rhea - if you ever get tired of practicing law, you can go into business laying tile :D! Great job ! Fingers crossed that snow is soon nothing more than a memory :).

Melinda - Get well soon!!!!!!! Thanks for being worried - I am the same way when you don't check in :). Take care of yourself!

Tracy - Are you over your crud yet? How go the contract talks????

Thanks Lita, but nope. My back and skin would not be able to take that abuse everyday. Back might get used to it, but the dry skin would drive me nuts.

Hopefully I'm going to start back at the formal working out soon. I've been slackin'!

I don't blame you for not wanting to go to that, Rhea. But you do mighty fine work, girl :D! I don't think you can say you've been slacking with the load you're carrying !

Hi fit babes! Rhea, that tile work you did is GORGEOUS! So your contractor lets you and DH do the work on the house you want to do? And I say too, you have NOT been slacking! You're doing different kinds of workouts. :D

I'm finally over the crud--needed 4 rounds of anti-biotices before it was kicked--goodness! I'm doing 4DS this week, haven't done it in ages. I like it 'cause it isn't killing me.

DH and I are planning to go with the company that will work with us on what we want. Their house plans will work (we have our own house plan but it will cost a lot more to do that one than one of theirs) and even though it the plan we choose won't have my kitchen really close to the garage (I really don't like walking clear through the house with groceries!) I definitely like the layouts the company has. To keep costs down, we get the permits, prepare the site, paint the house inside and out and a few other things. We can do some of the work as well. I'll let you all know how things go! I hope the rain lets up soon so we can go out and measure the property again to see what plan will fit. :)

BB passed puppy class, now onto obedience training. I imagine the trainer isn't going to cut us any slack in that class so BB may be throwing a temper tantrum or 2. He's done it before! :D DH and I had lots of fun trying to trim his nails last night--he always pulls his paw away--I think we fed him half a jar of peanut butter to keep him occupied so I could clip. The fun never stops around here babes!

I hope you are feeling better Melinda, and you too Lita! One of my co-workers said to another the other day, "Have a good evening, don't kill anyone!" So I'm repeating the sentiment to you.

Talk to you soon babes!

Tracy - I am so glad you're finally over the crud! Congrats to the BB on passing puppy class ! I'm sure he'll get the hang of obedience class - but just like with humans, it takes time ;). I am so glad you found a contractor :D!!!!!!!! I'm afraid I would never be able to do any finish work like you and Rhea - everything I do says "definitely done by an amateur" when I'm done  :p. As for killing people - that was too funny! I will admit it's been a near-run thing this week but so far, so good ;).

Glad you are feeling better there Tracy! Have you done any more of the new TLong workouts? I've been itching a bit to do them, just not the time. I'm so glad that you are finally starting the house. Just remember, you'll live through the experience without killing the DH. Well, hopefully.

I like the quote from your co-worker, definitely goes with my job.

Hi Everyone,

Tracy, I'm glad you are better. I'm still working on getting through this cold. DH has it too, it is sapping my energy. Not sleeping very good, so that doesn't help. The nail clipping is no fun, that's for sure. Hopefully BB will get used to it over time! I'm glad you're starting to move with the house plans!

Rhea, you amaze me. I, like Lita, am an amateur at all that and it would definitely show if I did something like that. I'm also amazed at your energy! Any estimates when it will all be done and you can move in?

Lita, glad you're ok. We are back to winter (temporarily). Been in the 30s all week and snowing.

I'm alternating weight work from 4DS and riding the stationary bike. I do really like 4DS, love those 30 min weight sections. I think I'd like another series that was put together like that.

School starts this week. I was originally signed up for an online class, but when I saw it I was overwhelmed, so took the advice of a friend that said "try the Sat class". The instructor works at Children's hospital. I have heard wonderful things about her. So for the next 11 Saturdays, I will be going to class from 9am - 2pm. But it's worth it go get more out of the class. the online version was just printed notes that you had to read on your own, no audio/video to watch. The other classes I had online had the audio component and it was very nice. You could play the lecture over and over if you liked and pause it. I don't just want to read notes.

Melinda - I am so sorry you're still dealing with that cold :(. Sounds like it's a good week to just rest and stay snuggled indoors, between the cold and the weather! I just know this class will be a snap, just like the others were. I'm sure I'd rather do the class in person, too. Sometimes it's just too hard to focus on a computer that has no personality ;). Take care of yourself - I hope you get well soon :)!
