Low Carbers & Friends - June 2011

Glad you are back among the living, including the workouts Reese. How did you feel today? That first day back is always a bugger. I had to repeat my week#2 from P90X; just got too busy trying to finish up the house before company comes this weekend. It will be so different when I don't work around the house until 11 pm. I'm probably not going to be sure what to do with myself! Oh, yah, I guess I could meal plan.

Hey, Rhea, I won't be here this weekend so..... I want to wish you a Happy, Happy, HAPPY Birthday :D!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you get to do something fun for a change :p!

I'm not sure how much "fun" I get to have with company. You know me, I'm not the type to sit still and let them serve themselves. Hopefully DH will plug in a little more help. He is actually dusting furniture this morning. (of course with a gripe that he is missing his golf game...lol)

Thanks Rhea and Lita! I was in bed the rest of the day and low on energy the next. I was able to do biceps from CTX though yesterday. Then made dinner. I was wiped out. Doc pretty much wants me eating and sleeping but to do a little each day. The walk and wts were too much that day I guess. lol.
The cultures that the doc took from the abscess showed Strep C and 4 others critters.

I'm plugging away. went for a walk down to the college to straighten things out this morning. I have a $300 credit so that makes me happy. I have to take 5 classes in the Fall and I'm not happy that I can't take any Science classes that I need. They are full or the time conflicts with my one night a week religious meeting. :( Either way, full load this fall.

Think the walk was enough for now. May do wts later. See how I feel.

Rhea - I'm pretty sure the dusting isn't going to kill him, although the grumbling might kill YOU :p! Hopefully DH will want to impress your company and will actually do something useful while they're there . Hey, a girl can hope, right ;)?

Reese - I hope you listen to the doctor :). You need to devote your energy to getting rid of the nasties. If you keep depleting your stores on exercise, you're going to take forever to get well again.

Melinda - Hope you're okay wherever you are and that your finals went okay. I know, for sure, you're glad they're over :D!

Tracy - Miss ya, girl! Hope you get to come back to us soon :).

Hi everyone, we're back. Came back to 70 degrees, high humidty and now rain. it was 108 in Vegas a few days. After I finished my work on Thur, we went to Hoover dam on Fri and also Grand Canyon West, which is part of an Indian reservation. They are the ones that built the Skywalk that is over the Canyon. We didn't do that, just went to the park. Anyways, it was beautiful and much cooler there, I guess from wind and elevation. It was only 85 there on Friday. Saturday we went to Red Rock Canyon and spent the day on the trails. One of them had a 5% grade 1.7 miles up. My legs were tired, but the next day the DOMs sat in and oooh, boy, from the knees down they hurt. It still hurts today! We did drive down the main strip in Vegas, but found that we are not big on large crowds so never did go down there. We got to see John Hefron from Last Comic Standing and he was good. He was actually talking about being in your 40s, life and relationship with his wife. Very relatable and funny. And he was clean, no foul language.

Reece, 5 classes are a lot to take at one time. You will be busy for sure! Glad you are out of the hospital. Rest and eating right will help you heal faster. Protein and vit C are big for healing.

Lita, there was one woman trying to walk this overweight lab up that 5% trail. We were just finishing it and she said to the dog"come on, you can do it" and DH and I looked at each other and said "that dog's not going to make it". It was out of shape and the trail was tough. Plus, it was brown, so was extra hot in the sun. I don't know what she was thinking. She was also with 2 small children. We just figured they really didn't go that far, there was just no way.

Rhea, I hope you had a nice weekend and enjoyed yourself.

Tracy, hope you're doing good.

Meso 3 of STS this week

Welcome back, Melinda :D! So glad you enjoyed your trip ! As for the poor dog - any kind of abuse just upsets me no end. That's why I don't own a gun. And yes, I am being very serious when I say that ....

Hi sweet babes! I am sorry I haven't been around, but my mother passed away unexpectedly and I was in CA last week with my sister and father. She had emphesema (sp) and was doing pretty well with it until the last 2 weeks of her life. Dad managed to keep that info from us! When there was no choice but to get her to the hospital, she was put in ICU, then hospice and passed away just a day later. I am grateful she did not linger and suffer. I loved her dearly so this has been quite a blow. We're all doing OK though but today I am beat! :)

Happy, happy birthday Rhea!!!! How was it? I hope you got some down time and DH served your company instead! Wow! You worked until 11 p.m. on your house most nights? I dunno if I can handle that! Hopefully, I won't be given a whole lot of tasks to do!

My dog is a very fast runner--he's pulling his leash against me unless I am running at top speed. And I can't run at top speed as long as he can! We took him to a small dog park yesterday and he ran himself ragged. It was great having a tired pup yesterday, I got more things done!

Reece, I too think you should listen to your pseudo mothers here  and not push yourself too soon. A small amout of time to get all better translates into a longer time of good health. As for me right now, I am not pushing myself. I'm going with what I feel like doing.

Melinda, I'm glad you had a great time in Vegas! It's been ages since I've been to Hoover Dam and I did get to Red Rock about 7 years ago. I never thought the desert could be beautiful, but it is!

Lita, I am so with you on not owning a gun! A friend of mine was bitten by a dog last week that was on a leash but the owner had no control of it. I wanted to shoot the owner!

Did some abs at work today and did a run/walk with BB today. Since I haven't worked out in a week, I may be feeling it all tomorrow!

Take care babes!

Tracy - I am so very sorry for your loss. There are never enough or the right words for this situation. Just know my heart and thoughts are with you and your family.

That's exactly the scenario I encountered the one and only time I got bit, too ! So much for leash laws, huh ? I think running with Basil would be a bit more stimulating than I would like :p.

Tracy, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother.

There was a man here that got attacked by some dogs that had attacked someone before. He got a slap on the wrist, while the guy lost his leg. They were big dogs that just tore the guy apart.

Hot here and high humidity. summer, summer, summer

Tracy- Hugs! I love you! Agreed that she didn't linger and suffer. I'm trying desperately to get my parents healthy but they are so darn stubborn and stuck in their habits. They are in their late 50's and very overweight. My mom was doing very well until I was in the hospital. She gained back at least 15 lbs do to worry and stress. She gets after me even if I do the dishes or clean the floors. I haven 6 burnt veins in my forearms. I don't need to be reminded that I was in the hospital. LOL.

I had pretty active weekend. Went for a mile and half walk then hike on Saturday. Monday I worked chest and back but then spent Tuesday in bed. Today I'm just starting to feel energy but am afraid to workout because I don't want to be drained. It's weird how I feel full of energy then do something and be completely wiped out the rest of the day. Ugh... and I'm bored out of my mind not being in school. I've applied a few places but haven't heard back. Quite frankly, not sure I have the energy to maintain a job.

Melinda- What type of protein do you suggest? I've been craving red meat like it's nobody's business. I'm taking flora to help get my intestines back on track from the antibiotic. That did a number on me. Still having trouble opening my mouth. I stretch it but it is killer! lol. My gums are taking their sweet time closing. I still have to clean them out and I can see the bone on my lower jaw but its not hurting like it was. Oh and I enjoyed the pics of your vacation! Hope you got some much needed R&R. :)

Lita- My husband got bit by a nasty dog while he was running 2 months ago. Its still alive and all they made them do was keep it on a chain! Grr... His fingers were purple for a while.

Hi babes! Thank you for your kind words and support! My dad is doing OK, he's staying busy and I call him every day. We've never talked so much! :D

I'm taking Friday off of work because I need to decompress a little. And instead of running with BB like I did today, I'm taking him to the dog park so he can run until it's out of his system!

Reece, I'm glad you are getting better, and still taking it easy too. I can relate to being wiped out, mine is just a different variety!

No summer here yet Melinda, I'm sorry you're suffering! :(

Take care sweet babes!

Rhea - My computer won't get on the internet at home :( but I took a quick moment to stop by work and get the July thread up. So I'm here, just not HERE if you know what I mean :p.

Here is the July thread. Happy 4th, everyone :D!
