Low Carbers & Friends - January

Whooo hoo new year, new thread and new workouts! What more can we ask for?

So I popped in Step Moves yesterday. Huh? was one of the words I kept saying. And I'm not CCC! but once you got most of it, (I kept turning the wrong way) it was rather fun. I'll be doing it more since I'm now got the bug to get it down. I also did Disc#10. I'm sore. But I love it.

Not sure what I'll do today, just one of the STS cardios.

Have a great New Years Day....BTW I was bad and order Tracie's new workouts.

Gosh, Rhea, am I surprised you ordered Tracie's workouts  :p ;) :D! Glad you liked Step Moves - I think I'll have to let it up to the rest of you to enjoy that one for me . Happy New Year's Day to you, too!

Happy New Year!!! I'm hoping for a good year! Hoping Dh will finally get a job (after 9 months of being layed off). Hoping DS keeps improving his life (last couple years were awful), and hoping we all stay healthy!

DH and I got all the Christmas decorations cleaned up this a.m. I'm getting ready to go back to work on Mon.

Lita, I did the boxing dvd and really liked it too. It's nice to not have to do a lot of kicks. For those of you that haven't done it yet, it's 3 cycles of punching, then a small cardio segment. Nothing goes too long. Then the end has some core work. I liked the core work, NO ROLLS!

Rhea, I'm going to hold off with Step Moves until I get the steps memorized in Athletic Step. They weren't too bad, but still need some work. I think if I add another step workout my brain won't be able to handle it!

Tracy, hope you had a nice New Year's Eve.

Go Buckeyes!!! We won the Rose Bowl!

Melinda - My fingers are crossed that all your goals come true in the new year!!! We are definitely in sync with the boxing workout . Congrats on the Rose Bowl win :D!

Hey, all. I'm in Rhode Island for work. Think I may do some yoga in the hotel, but for now I'm just tired. May not do much the next few days.

Nope, I'm not sleeping or resting, just no time to play. :p:(

But I have been working out.... in fact, I'm about ready to run home and pop in Athletic Step and see how much I can trip myself up!!LOL

Talk to you later.

Hi babes! Happy New Year !!! I hope all of your goals come true for you too Melinda!

Thanks for starting the new thread Lita AND giving us a link to it! I didn't have to do any searching you sweetie you!

I would have been here last night but DH dragged me to his work to decorate the cube of a friend having a big birthday. We were there till after 10 p.m. so I refuse to do anything this evening but sit on my toosh! (Well I did workout first.) :p

I'm really glad that you love the boxing workout Lita and Melinda! I want a low impact workout after doing Hiit 30/30 yesterday--goodness! I didn't have the fun with it you did Melinda! I had to pause it 3 times because my HR soared so high. :( I blame it on my exhaustion at the time (bad night of sleep) and that I'm so short! Doing the jump turns on an 8 inch step was tough! I did get through it OK but decided that I will do 40/20 on a lower step. That one looks like a doozy! I gotta remember that I'm not in the same shape cardio wise that Cathe is! I can do most of her stuff but this, I dunno babes! :D

Melinda, congrats on your Rose Bowl win! I thought of you while we were watching it. :) We turned it off after the Ducks coach made the bonehead decision to go for a field goal and then they didn't get one! Hope you get some good relaxation in Rhode Island!

Rhea, I got Tracie's workouts too! You aren't bad for getting them, you're a video vixen girl! :D How did you like Athletic Step?

I haven't done any ab work where there's rolling involved but I think it's in Cardio Core Circuit. I'll be feeling that pain on Thursday!

Taking a rest week last week is making me sore this week getting into meso 2! Wow! Hope the DOMS go away soon.

Later babes!

Tracy, I do not use an 8 inch step, mine is probably 6 inches, it's homemade from DH. I decided that the most important things was just getting the HR up, so as long as that happens, I am fine. I can't remember what Cathe workouts use the really high step for some cardio stuff, maybe plyo legs in meso 3??? but I never use the high step. I see myself falling and then what would that accomplish if I got hurt? I'm almost 5'8", so you are definitely challenging yourself with that 8 inch step.

Did yoga in the hotel room Mon night. Didn't sleep well, so was tired plus had a company end of year party, so got back late Tue. No exercise, it was a long day! I will get back to a routine on Thur when I'm home! Yea! I like to spleep in my own bed.

Rhea, what did you think of Athletic Step?

Lita, what are you up to?

Tracy - You're welcome :D. This site is not nearly as user-friendly as I am used to so I thought the link might save some frustration ;). I always have major DOMS on Meso 1, Week 1 (Legs only) and then on the first two weeks of Meso 2 on the chest/tricep workouts. I know it's because of the pushups not doing anything for me in Meso 1. Those first 2 weeks of Meso 2 have given me severe DOMS both times ! BTW - I use a shorter step too. Between arthritic hips & being a total klutz, I'm afraid I'd be in a big world of hurt if I didn't ;). Oh - and MMA: Fusion has rolls for the cardio & the abs, I do believe.

Rhea - I am sorry they're keeping you so busy :(! Was there too much time for criminal activity over the long weekends of the holidays?

Melinda - I hope you get to get some decent rest today !!! It's hard this week as it is with coming back after the holidays - being short on sleep isn't helping, I'm sure! This week is Meso 2, Week 3. For my cardio, I did MMA: Boxing on Monday (told ya I loved it :p ), and other than that, it's been walks. We're now in the single digits w/ several inches of snow but I still hope to get a 4th walk in for the week come Saturday.

Yep, too many criminals and that the darn boss is out because he was in an accident. (not that we miss him or anything or like he really did much in the work area )

I liked Athletic step and got mad at it at the same time. Well, I suppose that it is not a good idea to do it after a Leg Meso cycle the day before. My legs were tired yesterday during the end of the workout. Jump rope around the world? Heck no, no poop. The second combination is a pain the pootie to learn. I finally gave up the turn after the core crunch since I keep getting on the wrong foot. Geese, once you get behind in some of this routines, you are toast. But I really liked the third routine. Would have liked it more if I had normal legs and not noodles by the time I got there!:p

Today is the first day of Meso #2. 65 mins, are you kidding me?

Well, gotta run.

I think you're better off without him ;). Things seem to go smoother when he's not around - and besides, it's even harder, IMHO, to carry someone's weight when they're there in your face. Easier to do it when they're not there as a constant reminder . The chest/shoulder/triceps workouts are all longer :(. But not as long as Meso 3 if I remember correctly....

Yep, I agree Lita.

BTW, now I understand why such a long workout. It is not because there are so many exercises, but that 60 seconds between, which I liked ...hehe. I also liked working all the same muscle at the same time instead of jumping around. Made changing weights and everything very nice. I was more ascared of 65 minutes with all exercises, no rests. Whew.

I think I'll tackle HIIT today.

Sorry, Rhea, I guess I should've mentioned it! You're right - it's easier not jumping around and trying to turbo-change weights for different muscles & different exercises ;). The last week of Meso 2 has shorter workouts (yeah) before hitting Meso 3 which has even longer ones. But that one has the rests, too, so it's not all killer work awaiting  but I'll still need to get up earlier for that cycle . Thankfully only 15 minutes although most days I hate to lose that much sleep .

Okay, so I did 30/30 yesterday. Thank goodness it is short. Sure gets your HR up. In fact, my HR monitor decided to freeze during the middle of that workout, I guess it did not like workout! haha  Today is Disc #14, a full workout for the legs, oh joy. Then I get to do some aerobic housecleaning. Such a fun day planned.

Good heavens, Rhea ! Thank God it was your HRM and not you :p! I'm glad I'm done for the week!

I know I have joint issues BUT I do think the next time I try HIIT I'm going to give it everything - surely it can't make me ache that bad all the more actual cardio there is, huh? Guess I'll never know until I try, right ?

Wonder which one I should do? Have any of you tried all of them? I can NOT do anything w/ a box over 6" but I can surely modify those using a box, right?

Jeez, sometimes I get SO tired of making decisions !

Lita - I've only done 30/30, but used only one riser. The step really is only used for about two sections, if I remember correctly. Maybe only one and then the warm up. The only section I can remember using the bench was some over the top....err....side to side......long ways ( I forget what those are called:eek:) Well, then you were supposed to tap the bench with your hand in another section, but since I used a lower step, I don't tap it!!!!:D
