Low Carbers & Friends - January 2012

I did cardio supersets from the new series. I discovered that it is very stressful on my neck to do anything where my hands are on floor and feet on the discs. My neck was feeling a bit strained last night after doing that. So I will just need to watch what I do. For one thing, I have to make sure I don't try to see what they are doing on tv while I'm down there. I have to keep my neck straight. This a.m. it is feeling better, but I don't want to do any of that type of work today.

Melinda - I'm so glad you caught on to one of the problems! I can't do hands on the floor, feet on the discs, either. I always use my long step (I leave that set up with risers) for mountain climbers, burpees, etc. I still find myself watching my feet :p but I'm trying to break the habit ;). I also use the step for PU since I realized last year that trying to do them military-style on the floor aggravated my shoulder & neck every single time.

Sucks getting old huh? But I'm still fighting it tooth and nail. I never thought about the PU with the step. P90X2 came with some PU bars, I'll have to put them together and see if they help me with the big boy PUs.

Rhea - How high off the ground do they sit? I actually vary how high/low I have the step. And every once in a while I actually do the pushups on the floor - but not very often and only a few ;). But definitely for the burpees & mountain climbers I need the height. Otherwise my butt is way over my head - nothing near like Cathe and her crew look like :p!

Melinda - How is that neck doing :)? Is DH any more happy with his work? How is DS doing?

Tracy - You doing okay out there? I think of you and BB every time I hear the song "I want you to love me like my dog does" :D! And since it's a current hit, that's quite often .

Hi babes! I'm sorry I haven't been here. I think I've been busy, but I can't remember what I did! So maybe I was just lazy. :p

Snow here! For the first time this season starting yrsterday. A few inches and we're supposed to get a little break tomorrow, then Wednesday is going to be bad. I just may stay home from work thay day. I wouldn't care if it was just snow, but we always stay around 32 or go a few degrees higher so it can melt a little, then we plunge back down overnight and get ice. So there should be a good layer or 2 of ice tomorrow a.m. Bleah! We're turning to rain on Thursday. But as winter goes, it's been pretty mild here this year.

I like the title of that song Lita! Thanks for thinking of me when you hear it! :)

I think I'm in total denial about getting older! :D If anything hurts from a workout, I blame the workout, not me! :p

About those darn PU things, I've thought too that they are easier to do if you have relatively broad shoulders. Just a theory, I don't know for sure.

Rhea, I'm glad you are better from that stomach flu! That with an ulcer is a double whammy! :( Let me know how you like P90X2 when you start it, I am curious and would like to pass it along to my exercise group at work.

I had the day off today so it was a morning workout day which I know from everyone's comments that it's the most challenging part of the day! So I decided not to get too challenged and did MMA Kickbox. It fit the bill.

Have a great week babes!!

So glad you could finally pop in Tracy :D! Glad you're not getting frigid temps and wind from the cold front !

Rhea and Melinda - How are you ladies doing :)?

Busy being cold here! A whole 1 degree this morning! Eek.

Lita - I haven't put together the push up thingies yet, so I don't know how high. I probably should put them together tonight since I have the room done. I don't think they are very high, only about 6 inches? maybe?

Okay, back to work.......

We are close to 50 today, but lots of rain. We're suppose to get to 56 on Sun, but that's still a little way off, so who knows. We've been able to do 5 mile hikes on Sundays for the past 2 weeks, it is nice. It's cold, but gets us out of the house.

Lita, I use our pool table at times if there's lots of push ups to do or the tricep pushups. Makes it easier, so that's a lot higher than the step. And Tracy, I do agree about how broad your shoulders are for doing them. In fact, if I do wide pushups and also have my legs wider apart, they are easier to do.

DH is doing ok with his job, he is adapting. It's still not his ideal situation, but it's a job for now. He has had a lot more acid reflux and is going to dr today, I know it's from stress of his job. DS is going to a counselor about just stuff he's trying to deal with, school, break up from GF and other stuff. He seems happier for now.

I'm having a weepy day. I only got 5 hrs sleep, so I'm sure that's part of it. Sure wish it was April or May and not January.

Rhea - I think that's the average height of those things. Higher is better, IMHO  ;)! I think we're all supposed to get over this cold front a day before the next one swoops down ....

(((Melinda)))!!!! I'm trying to cyber-vibe some bright sunshine your way! I am so glad everyone is plugging along. It's a bumpy road for all you guys :(, but at least you're all doing what you can to get over the humps :)! I hope DH gets help with his reflux - and I think it's great DS is getting the help he needs, too! Hey, I like the pool table idea :D! I tell myself all the different heights I use is adding the variety Cathe always says we need to add to our workouts :p.

Lita, I notice using the pool table that I can actually go deeper into the push ups and work the muscles more, so it is a good thing and helps to build strength. I used to think it was making it too easy, but I was wrong.

got more sleep last night and feeling better today. DH is going to have a scope down his throat to look at that. They will call Fri with a time to go. I did slide and glide last night and my neck was hurting again. I'm thinking some of it was from doing the drag yourself across the floor with your hands and feet on the discs. Not sure. So now I will take a break again. It is not hurting now, but I think if I did another one of those workouts today it might hurt it. This is annoying.

So I'm trying not to eat as much sweets, been on a week of eating too much of the stuff.

I am so glad you're doing better today, Melinda ! You know, I thought the same thing on depth when using an incline, too, but then thought it was just wishful thinking ;). Nice to know it's not just me :D! That would be an annoying thing to have it occur every time :(!

first of all - TGIF. I usually don't say that, but I am today! This week had a lot of ups and downs, mostly in my head, but felt real to me. we are having pizza tonight, which is no big deal really, but I'm looking forward to it. Feb will soon be here.

Took yesterday off, just walked around the house while doing phone calls. so back to it today, not sure what I'll do.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Tried to log on a few days ago and couldn't.

I am in an eternal repetition of each day. This is why I don't like winter, it's just day after day of blah. Constant sameness.

I am still plugging along with the STS series, I think I begin week 4, probably today. Took Tuesday off from working out.

I saw they are having a road trip to Chicago. That is about 6 hours from me, but I'm not going. I guess I'm kind of interested, has anyone ever gone. I went to a FitPrime weekend once, probably in 2003, I think it was.

Hi, Melinda! You sound like you have the winter blues :(. (((HUGS))) I do think Tracy is the only one I know that has gone to one.

Hi babes! Melinda, hugs to you with the winter blues! :( DH and I had them pretty badly on Tuesday. (And I even take an anti-depressant!)Pouring buckets of rain, high winds and dark even during the day. Last week we saw almost 2 feet of snow, then got an ice storm. Power outages, trees down, even my building at work lost power and we were sent home. The weirdest part was seeing the town closest to us in total darkness. The buildings had no lights and stoplights were dark. Not even flashing red! Heck, the mall even went dark. I say it every year that I want to head south in the winter when I retire like DH's parents do!

OK, enough of my whining! :D Yes, I went to Cathe's Road Trip in 2008. I was with 100 of my closest friends too. :p It wasn't as intimate as your Fitprime trip was, but I had a great time. It sounds to me like you need to do something for yourself and why not do the Road Trip? It would be something to look forward to. I gave this trip to myself as a reward for hard work. :)

Geez, I can sure tell when I haven't been doing weight work! Or I should say heavy weight work. I kinda slacked last week due to the weather (but did manage a workout on the laptop when our power was out even though the dvd wouldn't play the sound!) so I did SJP without the step work this past Monday. Then I took BB for a run. I am still sore today! Still doing Jillian's Get Ripped in 30 program at work and adding some cardio at home after that. Trying to take it a bit easy though since I'm still dealing with $%#@&! DOMS!

Have a great rest of your week babes and I hope you all get lots of sunshine!! It's rumored here that we are supposed to be sunny Fri. and Sat. Yippee!

Tracy - What nasty weather you were having ! Glad you're okay and made it through it all!

Rhea - You're not snowed under out there, are you :(?

Oh my word, everyone, I just watched this video clip that is so amazing - but makes me feel like the biggest wienie in the world  !

There is a 13 year old girl in CO that weighs 105.75#. She holds 8 world records and 23 CO/USA records in power lifting. The article said she squats at 143.3 points (but I think they meant # ;) ) - and she holds the record for dead lifting 176#!!!

Not snowed under here, just not having enough time to play. I got DH's head cold which really isn't a cold but it is....strange one, only in the back of your sinuses and you just don't feel good, but not real bad. Worst type of thing ever since you can't workout (that wouldn't be a good idea), but not really sick enough to stay home from work. Of course, I can't any way. Plus I got it on the weekend. So I did spend it catching up on Desperate Housewives (last season at least) Now I have to wait for this season to be over and then get it on Netflix.

Rhea - So glad to see you :D! But sorry DH shared his sinus issue with you :(. Is it something Mucinex PE would help? I'm glad you were wise enough to kick back some this weekend !
