Low Carbers & Friends - August 2012

Uh, oh, did I forget a birthday? Not that I can remember anything anymore! Happy Birthday Ms. LIta! Hope you had a wonderful one with lots of relaxation and no more smoke.

I really didn't send the smoke, cause it is still here. But at least the nearest fire is about 55% contained, so hopefully it will be all over soon. My senior deputy is out with a fever and a headache and I wonder if it is partially from the smoke. Here in Susanville it has been the worst. At my house it has actually lightened up. In fact I was able to open all the windows last night.

Melinda I hope you back is better soon. DH has a bad back right now and he is just whining all over the place. Wimp. He needs to stretch more, but when it starts feeling better he stops stretching. Well, I do too, so I'm just as bad. Need to do that every night, stretch that is, not complain lol.....

Have a great weekend everyone. Off to get some caffeine in my systme.

Thanks, Rhea! Don't worry - you're not too late. You're here right on time :D! All these fires are so awful :(. I don't know how the firefighters can put their lives on the line day after day! You may be just as bad as DH when it comes to giving up the stretching, but I'm sure you can't whine nearly as fine as he does, lol!

Happy Birthday, Lita! I'm sorry I missed it as well. I hope you had a super day and will have a great year to come!

Tracy, you have a mountain to climb, but by Chirstmas hopfully it will be an enjoyable holiday for you and you can relax. I have found I am enjoying crying, I feel kind of weird saying it. I am starting to realize that most of my women friends at this age go through this. Who knew life would be filled with so many challenges now. I thought the 20s were just a time for change, but really, that was all more personal issues. Of course, it still is personal now, but lots more people are involved in this personal change which makes the dynamic much more intense. I am just getting out of managing people and have to say it is a nice break. But I can see myself moving back into it again in the future, it's very hard to walk away from managing when you develop the skill.

Rhea, I have been trying to stay active, because as I've found moving does help put things back in place. I am going to do some pilates today and see if that can help. I do need to stretch more.

Have a good weekend. Friday night football at the high school. My son is a senior and in the band, so this is our last year. I'm not really a fan other than I like to watch my son. I keep watching everything else going on. DH likes to watch the game.

Thanks, Melinda :D! You know, I so rarely cry.... probably why this waist of mine is so big. Too many stress hormones in there :p! Hey - sounds like a good excuse, right ;)?

So yesterday I started STS, decided to give that a go again. I think the last time I did it was beginning January. So this should take me through Nov, I usually stretch it out a bit longer.

My back is better. Yea! Kept stretching, doing yoga, pilates and moving. then did the first disc on STS - chest/shoulder/bi and something sort of did a final pop back into place! Yea!!!

Lita, I felt like my waist was getting bigger, so I cut back on my sweets. I was just creeping up on them more and more. Anyways, I lost 4 pounds and my stomach is smaller now, so I am happy about that. I still have some sweets, I'm not cold turkey, but did a major cut back. Don't know if that is an issue for you, just a suggestion.

So, school is beginning. Friday is orientation, but I can start reading now. Gotta get myself in gear, just not feeling the motivation for it. I will come around, though.

Melinda - I am so glad your back is better :D! I gave up sugar years ago :). I do eat sugar-free stuff but very rarely. My stomach has always been big - even in my younger days ;). If I were to take HRT, it might get smaller, but it's not worth the risks IMHO. Every woman in my family was an apple so I think that might play a part in it, too. (Granted, not a big part, but a part, nonetheless.)

Yeah Melinda! The back is better. My should has been a bit better since the start of the 3rd mesocycle. Not sure why, but it could be that I've been building the strength in that back and the chest at the same time and it is finally evening out. Of course, I dread every Weds cause of plyo legs, but I manage to get through it.

I'm pooped today. Oh yeah, its Weds. I think there is only about 12 days left in the challenge. The I won't be pushing so hard. I think my body will like a little slow down. :p

Rhea - You are doing an awesome job ! Shoot - you make ME ready for the challenge to end and I'm not where near doing the workouts you are :p!!!

Lita, I hear you, we are all apples in my family, too. I'm just a smaller version of an apple ;) People say "yea, that can happen after you have a baby" and I just say, I looked like this before I ever got pregnant, so that's not it!

Rhea, it could be that doing the heavier wts in meso 3 is what pulled something in to place. When we get issues, sometimes having another muscle work can help the bothersome one relax when an opposing muscle works. That's why I try to keep moving, especially try different things. Sometimes it can be weird stuff, like your shoulder hurts, then you do tile work on the lower level of the counter, where your hands are in a new position and ta da, it releases the hurting muscle! This is a true story, my mom said she suffered for months with her arm/shoulder from carrying my brother when he was a baby. One day she was helping to pull out some nails from the ceiling or something like that that was overhead. The constant pulling down motion with her hands up high released the arm/shoulder and it stopped hurting.

Tracy, keep on hanging on!

Labor Day weekend almost here. We are going to go for a long bike ride on a new trail about 90 min from here. When we were in WV we ran into a couple that recommended it to us.

Melinda - You are so funny :D! You're right, I'm a "smaller" apple too - and most days I just try to be immensely thankful for that ;). I just get disgruntled that my body is showing signs of age :(. I want it to stay as young as my mind has! If I don't get back, enjoy that ride !

Rhea and Tracy - Hope you're both doing well!

Bike ride may be cancelled, have to watch weather. Rain from hurricane Isaac is closing in on us. They say Sun and Mon for sure will be a wash out, not sure about Sat.

Have a great weekend everyone!
