Low Carbers & Friends - August 2010

Rhea, I am glad things are getting better.

I know I probably didn't do my 1RM tests correctly or give it my all, some weights are way too heavy and others too light. I kind of quit following those weights. Are you using the weighted hand waits to get those odd increments of weight? I also can only lift so much weight up with hand weights to do chest presses and would like to have that rack. Maybe next year.

Tracy, did you get my latest FB message?

Hi babes! I got your message Melinda, but after I mailed the videos! :p Feel free to pass them on to someone else or donate them to your library. You should get them Thursday. Sorry! I think that's awesome that your company is paying for the S&H series and new dvds--yippee!!

Rhea, I was so pleased to hear your good news! It's amazing how people can recover from strokes these days when they get medical care quickly. I continue to send well wishes and prayers. :) So, what are you sewing?

When I did STS the first time, I realized that I went way too heavy on my 1RM tests and adjusted things quickly! I didn't do the tests again and don't plan to. Too lazy! :D Well, that and the weight is plenty challenging as it is thankyouverymuch! I do have the tower, and it saved my shoulders. Before that, I laid the barbell across 2 chairs but it still wasn't high enough and I had to reach back and lift it up and over my head to use it. Not good for the shoulders at all! But if you don't care about doing the chin ups, I think a weight bench would work just as well and is likely not as expensive. Although the tower can handle up to 350 pounds, I can move the thing sometimes when doing chin ups from a sitting position so keep that in mind too.

Lita, of course I am interested in what you're up to! Doing a different count with S&H is a great idea! I'm never one to think of things like that. I am also very interested in how your next STS rotation will go. Please keep us updated!

I plan to do different STS rotations once the weather cools rather than doing the 3 month rotation. I'm searching for them on the forums and have gotten a few but plan to look for more. Now I just need to decide what to do and when to do them!

Did Supersets yesterday and Body Max 1 today. Travel Fit tomorrow most likely, I'll be short on time.

Have a great week babes!

Tracy, I am sorry that you took that extra effort with the videos :( I will pass them to someone who can use them or the library. They won't go to waste. I didn't know that there were other STS rotations other than the 3 or 6 month ones.

Yes, Lita, how is your STS rotation going? I think I will finish up meso 2, then try out S&H

Rhea, how are you doing?

It is so hot here, seems the norm. I am groggy, don't want to do anything!

No problem Melinda, I'm glad they will not go to waste! :)

I think Lita is starting her STS rotation next week I believe.

Cathe put together 2 STS rotations that are a month long each. One was in June 2009, the other in October 2009. Some Catheites have made up their own too.

I didn't have time to do Travel Fit yesterday so I didn't work out at all. Today I did SJP which was a pretty good challenge. Sweated to death in the cardio because it's kinda warm out and since I've done STS, I upped my weights with this one. So rather than using it when I want to slack a little, it now makes me work hard!

We're going to heat up into the 90's--the dog days of summer! I feel your pain Melinda!

Have a great weekend babes!

Hey, Tracy, I got the videos yesterday. I may go ahead and do one today.

OK, so I thought I'd change things a bit and got out Step Moves, I hadn't tried that yet. Sooo...
Wed I fumbled all over it and by the 3rd step routine I was just jogging in place and felt defeated. Then I decided to tackle this a little differently and so Thur I thought I'd just work on the first step routine, just for learning, not exercise. It went a lot better, so I went on to the second routine and I think I mostly have that. Now for the third one to learn. Don't know if I'll try that today or just go over the first ones again.

I need to get into those STS cardio workouts that I have neglected. It is way too hot outside to do much else, so might as well give this a try.

Have a good weekend. Lita, let me know when you decide to start the STS.

Hey everyone!

Melinda - the learning curve is a bit longer on those step dvds. I've had to do it over and over before I really got it down. I still sometimes leave out the arms because it just messes me up. Definately have to count out sometimes too (like that four step hop around the corner one) But I do like it; in fact, I just did it this weekend. Was surprised at my intensity level...seemed easy aerobically...must be doing something right with those Turbo Fires.

Wish I have a little more time to cook and prep my food, but that is going to have to wait until the house is done. Permits are issued, bank docs are signed, now we just have to build. Yippee!!

I'm on day #86 of the 98 day challenge. I probably will just keep going since it has really "whipped" me into shape. I won't reach my ultimate goals by the 98th day (knew that before started) so I'll just keep plugging through.

Well, lets see today is a longer workout day since I need to do both cardio and weights. STS #28 is in store, so I'll probably plug in a short cardio before and maybe even some abs since I tend to forget them if they are not included on the workout dvd.

Have a great rest of the day!

Hi babes! Glad you got the videos Melinda. :) Did you try one of them?

Step Moves definitely has a learning curve and Athletic Step has a tricky move or 2 also! I really like Step Moves for a light cardio day. As for the other STS cardios, I don't do Hiit or Cardio Circuit I think it's called. Don't enjoy having my HR soar above my house for a long time. :p

Rhea, congrats all around! For getting whipped into shape AND getting things ready to build! Do you have a contractor? This isn't a second home for you, is it? Or is it? I'm sorry I don't remember! I have nothing to report on this end house-wise, we did find a contractor we wanted but he is too busy and it's back to DH being the contractor. And he gets mired in details so it's going excrutiatingly s-l-o-w. And that's all I'm going to say about it today!

Finally did Travel Fit today. It was 90 degrees out so it was perfect to do. And I love band work so that helped my motivation to workout in a stuffy room!

DH and I are heading to the coast and one of our National Parks this Friday. Can't wait for the getaway!!

Here's to a healthy week!

Melinda - I am starting STS next week but I'm only doing Meso 3 :). I've been working on strength this summer (as I always do in the heat  ) so I did 4 weeks of GS, 4 weeks of S&H and decided to take a break this week before hitting Meso 3.

Rhea - Yes indeed - congratulations all around :D!!!!! I am so happy for you on both successes !

Tracy - Suppose you could hire Rhea's contractor when she's done with him :p? Enjoy your trip and Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!

Tracy, I did not do the S&H yet. Work got busy and I decided to finish off the meso 2, so I will begin that next week.

Our weather is finally nicer here! Yea! But now school starts next Wed. Makes me feel sad, reminds me summer is ending.

Will write more later. Feeling blah lately

Hope you feel less "blah" soon, Melinda! Let us know how you like S&H :). Hopefully you'll like it as much as Tracy and I do.

Hi babes! Thank you for the good wishes Lita!

I hope you are feeling better soon Melinda! I understand the sadness of Summer ending. What class are you planning to take this fall? We've finally cooled down here too, whew! The heat was making me a bit cranky!

Great idea Lita! Rhea, when you are through with your contractor, please send him or her my way!

Ug! I had the first day of my vacation today and didn't plan my day very well. So other than running errands, I did nothing! I did not use my time wisely to even workout--no motivation! But I plan to get a workout in in the morning. I'm such a planner that I seem to get lost if I have time on my hands that isn't expected. I need to get a grip!:p

I did MMA Kickbox the other day, missed a workout yesterday and will do a short Amy Bento workout tomorrow. Then it's off to the coast and I won't be back until the 25th.

Since I will be missing your special day on the 24th Lita, I will say now
HAPPY, HAPPY, BIRTHDAY DEAR FRIEND!!!!!!! I hope you have an incredibly wonderful day!!

Later sweet babes!

Thank you, Tracy :)! Have a safe and happy trip. Don't worry about yesterday not being organized - that's what vacations are for ;). Relax, enjoy, have fun and celebrate that Happy Anniversary today, my friend :D !

Just in case I don't get here tomorrow!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITA!!!! Hope you have a wonderfully relaxing day.

Thank you, Rhea :D! Are you doing okay with all you have going on :)? I hope things are looking a bit brighter for you these days!

Day by day is sometimes all we CAN do ;). Beats the alternative :p! But then again, sometimes I think I'd ENJOY the rubber room - think of the aerobic benefits  :D!

Hi babes! I like the way you think Lita! A rubber room WOULD be fun for aerobics! :D

I missed you all and it's good to be home! We did lots of sightseeing and hiking and I saw some amusing signs too--we crossed one bridge over Itsa Creek and shortly after that we passed a street called By the Way. :) Later we saw a highway adopted for clean up by the Clallum County Sheriff Chain Gang. I love it when people have a sense of humor!

I haven't done any official workouts since I got home but I've been pretty active. Yesterday's activity consisted of marathon house cleaning--about 10 hours worth. I've got a lot of stuff to take to Goodwill now! I laid in bed this a.m. thinking I should get up and workout but I felt yesterday's workout pretty well and skipped it. I may skip all of them until Monday. :p

Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Hi everyone!

Happy Belated Birthday, Lita. I hope it was a good day.
Happy Anniversary, Tracy! How many years is it now? I remember when you got married!
Rhea, I feel like i'm in that same yada, yada, yada mode with work and home.

Don't know about other parts of the country, but a lot of people have been sick with sinus colds here. I'm sure the weather and pollen has something to do with it. I know I have something, it doesn't make me so sick that I lay in bed, but definitely don't feel like I have a lot of energy. It's even hard to get motivated to walk, but I did.

The weather is cooler, but today it's suppose to shoot back up to 90! UGH! School started here again. We went to the first high school foot ball game which we have determined is made of 2 sets of parents, those that have kids on the team and those with kids in the band. We're the band parents. We saw something on dateline or one of those evening news shows and it showed how repeated blows to the head with some sports can cause the brain to change over time. Needless to say, we are glad DS is in the band, other than someone running into him with an instrument when they march, I don't have as much to worry about ;)

I am guessing there is a S&H rotation. Lita, did you do that? I think I remember you saying something about that. I was thinking of doing that in Sept.

Finished Chem class with an A! Fall quarter is STNA part 1 class. That is state tested nursing assistant. Part 2 is during the winter. I will take both as evening classes.

This work week is going to be slower, so I'll try to check in more often.

Welcome back, Tracy :D! I think the break from workouts is a great idea - I do it frequently :p!

Melinda - Congratulations !!!!!!!! I knew you were ace the class. How awesome! As for the rotation, there are quite a few w/ S&H but I don't know of any specific ones off the top of my head. I always just do S&H and whatever cardio I feel like :).

Hi babes! Good to see you here again Melinda! Like Lita, I knew you would earn a high grade in your class, you rock!! :D I've been married for 5 years. It went by really fast! We're cooling down and will have rain the next 2 days. I'll take that over high heat so I feel for you!

Lita, my break from workouts lasted until today. I certainly enjoyed it! Now I'm scared about how I'll feel tomorrow though! :p But I steered clear from Cathe today, and probably will this whole week!

My meetup group is doing a 6 week bootcamp starting next week that I would love to do but it costs $200. :( I can't justify that cost with all of the workouts I have already! Plus this month I have to pay my car insurance. Bad timing I say!

Have a healthy week babes and here's to no DOMS for anyone!
