Lost my running virginity....

Well, not really, but it has been a really long time. Today was the day. I haven't run since I got pregnant with the first 21 years ago.

This morning I strapped on my running shoes, warmed up a bit and started walking. I walked at a fast pace for about 5 minutes and then eased into a nice running pace. I was listening to Cardio Coach Vol. #2, on my ipod and it was a great motivator. I didn't do the intervals as I didn't want to do too much too soon.

I alternated walking/running, although it was definitely more run than walk. I was pleased with my cardio endurance, but by the end of the 30 minutes my legs felt SO heavy. Also, my arms kept tingling, so I'm guessing I was holding my upper body way too tense.

Anyway, it was a great feeling. How soon can I go out again? If I feel okay tomorrow, is it okay to go out again. I will admit my legs are quite sore - but in a good way}( !

Any other suggestions?

WAY TO GO. The first day is always the worst and the best. YOu don't want to over do the first couple of times out. Maybe go out tomorrow but walk more than you run. To control your enthusuiam set some intervals like 4 minutes of walking to 1 minute of running. Just to keep your body in the motion. Then for sure some other form of exercise that is not so rough on the knees for the next day or perhaps a rest ;)

See at the 5k starting line in about 6 weeks.:D

Tammy!!! Great Job....:)...one of the toughest things about running is learning to relax your arms as it is normal they kinda tense up. If your legs are sore now, I think they might be really sore tomorrow! My advice is not to run for at least a day, maybe 2. Your legs will benefit from some stretching tomorrow. So nice to have another runner among us...:)...Carole

What is the Cardio Coach Vol. #2? I want to start running, though I have done enough complaining in life about how much I hate running...go figure! I bought myself some good shoes recently and they sit there staring at me from the bottom of my closet. I have to use them now that I bought them, don't I? It is just the weather not cooperating with me that is making me nuts with any outside activity. Mountain biking, hiking, and gardening are all suffering.

The Cardio Coach sounds interesting, and that was my main point in posting. Can you fill me in?

Thanks ladies ....I'll see how I feel tomorrow - IM#3 is on the rotation. I'll progably wait until Sunday to head out for run #2, unless I wake up feeling like the Bionic Woman! LOL!

I did do SM#2 when I got back this morning - that felt very good! I am starting to get more use out of StretchMax these days too.
