Linda? Shingles?

I forgot when I created my account it was with my old email address, which has now changed. Thanks for trying to respond. This is horrible, I feel like all I want to do is sleep and not sure if it is from the medicine or the virus. On top of it all, I now have a cold along with the shingles. I have decided to take the rest of the weekend off from working out, maybe my body is telling me it needs a break. I usually exercise 6 times a week BFL style with Cathe weights and either running or HIIT cardio. I am just worried because I thought "shingles" was an older person virus and I am only 33. I am afraid that something underlying is causing my immune system to be so low. What has your experience with this annoying virus been.

Thanks again!

Linda

Linda, I've been exhausted and have a cold too. I think the cold is just another part of the viral infection. I blame the meds for being dizzy and tired. I took my last anti-viral today and hope the fog lifts soon. I gave up workouts a couple days ago and decided to wait until I was better. I know several younger folks who had shingles, so even though it is usually seen in older people, I don't think you have to worry about your immune system. I'm sure the stress or sleep deprivation caused by your young family may have triggered the re-infection. Good luck and feel better soon.

Just want to say that my friend had shingles when she was 32 or 33, so it's not totally uncommon.

I hope you both start feeling better asap. I have heard that shingles is miserable! :-(

some anti-virals, such as Valtrex, can make some peolple feel like you are in a fog unable to concentrate. They also can make you dizzy.

My friend had shingles when she was in High School.
I would image that stress is a big factor with shingles like any herpes infection would be.

Rest and take a break.

Wow my hubby just got over this. It is stress all of us that have had chicken pox it lies dormant in us and can come out like with stress my hubby is not working much and bills are piling up.

He took an antibiotic and it was gone in a couple of days the doctor said no more than 2-3 days if it isn't working go back.

Shingles is caused by Herpes Zoster, which is a virus. Antibiotics should not be prescribed for viruses, unless a patient has secondary bacterial infection. ;) (sorry, just the annoying pharmacist coming out in me)

My husband had shinges a few years ago, and lost his vision in his right eye. We've been fighting to get it back since then, including eye surgeries at Mayo in Rochester. He is a candidate for a corneal transplant. He has also been on heavy duty narcotics to combat post herpatic neuralgia, which is a painful nerve condition that can linger for years after your rash is gone. I don't want to be a downer, it affects everyone different. Unfortunetly, DHs shingles was in this eye. :( Hopefully your recovery will go much smoother...
