lifting heavy weight question

with all the talk about lifting heavy, i wanted to know how long into it did you notice a change in your physique? meaning getting more defined or leaner? i ask b/c cardio is just not cutting it and i think i need to lift heavier.
 
i second p90x. except for using premixes,i think cathes only one that focases on upper body is gymstle. i think p90x method of upper body training is more effective.

Just wanted to second the poster who said 30 days - I could see some changes in definition before then, but overall I'd say it took about a month of lifting as heavy as I could (w/good form, of course) before I could definitely tell that my muscles had grown.
