lift weights to lose weights double dvd

a friend at work got the "lift weights to lose weight" from kathy smith double dvd and said it was pretty good. she didn't know who cathe was so I showed her the show on fit tv - we always share fit tips and news so she said this was a good one to get- I was just wondering if anyone in here tried it and how they would compare it to a cathe workout. I always work out with cathe now but I also think it's good to vary things now and again- I just want to put my money into cathe videos first..any thoughts????

It's the first weight training video I started with. It's very much a starter workout. If you are already training with weights with Cathe, it will be a walk in the park for you and probably will not lead to any gains in strength or endurance at all. It will not challenge you.

Hi,

I agree with Clare. I think it is for a beginner just starting out. I don't think you would benefit from those workouts if you are use to Cathe.

Aila:)

I wouldn't bother with LWTLW, but LWTLW2 is an interesting workout that incorporates a lot of functional moves, like delt raises done while standing on one foot and with the upper body twisted to the side. You can get both of these workouts on separate DVD's rather than the double DVD. LWTLW1 is a pretty standard upper/lower body split. I had it once, but got rid of it because Kathy Smith is whooping and hooting throughout it! Very annoying. She's much more subdued on LWTLW2. I also think it's good to vary things now and again. One thing to watch out for: Kathy is often off-beat with the music (another thing that drives me nuts!), but if you follow the music and do the moves she is doing, you will eventually end up in synch.

I agree. What really annoyed me in the original LWTLW was that KS would sometimes just go around the "class" and coach, unlike Cathe who truly works as hard as everyone else. I tried this DVD once then sold it on E-bay. The money I got (and thank goodness, I was able to sell it for almost what I got it for) went to my PS DVD. Definitely worth every penny. And it is a very standard beginner workout. Once you master it, and you will right away, you'll want to pass it on.

I like LW2LW2 for a lighter workout. Lots of core work is integrated into the weight workout. The ab work is tough & there's a fun, challenging stability ball workout. Kathy Smith does that solo at the beach (looks like Malibu) & demonstrates how fit she actually is.

KS does work the room during the weight work & coaches two exercisers through the ab workout. So this DVD isn't for you if that bugs you.

And as posted above, she cannot keep to the beat.

I beg to differ. But that may be because I am a "weight wimp." I really like LWTLW(1) upper body segment. That still fatigues me in a short amount of time like no other. I use 8 and 10lb. weights and I am "worked out" in 20 minutes. I consider myself advanced in cardio, but intermediate in weights, since I don't devote a whole hour workout to just weight work. I always use weights as an add on. However, the lower body workout leaves much to be desired. Her LWTLW2, I don't care for, except the abs. It depends what you are looking for in a strength workout. My only complaint is she shouts so much in the first one, but it is good. Could you borrow it for a day to see if you like it?

thanks all!!! yeah I'll try and borrow it- and maybe let her borrow one of my cathe dvd's....ohh hate to part with it. =0) but I'd rather do that than spend the money and be disapointed. I was only thinking of the second one because the first one seemed cheesy- my friend told me about the different rotation with the feet and core work- that got me excited- I need good ab work..thanks again buds!!

well we traded vids and I have to say I did the upper body on the second dvd and I love it!!! My muscles are a bit sore today and that makes me happy. she also strengthens your fingers by doing pushups on them- but starts out showing you variations if your not ready for that- I was not!!! push ups are hard enough let alone doing them on your fingers- but it's good to strengthen them. I liked the rotations for your core when doing upper body too. so my review is good so far- I'm doing the lower body today

Glad you like LWTLW. I think it's a great workout for functional fitness.

Have you found the stability ball workout yet? It's kind of "hidden" on the menu page. You have to select an arrow at the bottom right. A lot of people didn't figure it out at first.

Just for giggles, check out LWTLW1 and let us know what you think.

didn't see the stability ball one- but i'll look- I don't have a ball yet. I did the leg segment yesterday and really liked it- i thought I'd be sore today and I'm not- I wanted to be....it sure did fatigue me at the time- more weight????
I was sore from the arms =0)
yes I will try the first one- probably next week
