Hello,

I've been on a long hiatus from Catheland (I know what's wrong with me?) but anyways this morning I got the chance to see the pictures of your cute new piggies! I'm not sure if my suggestion for names would help b/c I think your babies are female but I had two piggies growing up that I named Porky and Petunia pig. They were two love bugs :)

I also noticed that you mentioned you had a hammy name bri and was wondering how much you might know about their ailments. I adopted a furry baby (Stewart posted below) from a family friend last summer. I noticed last night while checking him over that he has this black sore on him. My first thought was that it is a cancer lesion :-( I did a search online and saw a bunch of info on wet tail and colds.

TIA for any info you may have :)

Stewart is definitely the cutest hampster I've seen today! :)

Hope you are able to find out what his black spot is and that it's something minor.

Hi Catherine and Suzanne,

Stewart is a little sweetie. He actually rolls over so I can rub his belly :D I actually changed his name when I adopted him b/c his wild and crazy blonde hair reminded me of Rod Stewart :)

It's so great to be back on Catheland...I've missed it greatly!

Have a great day!

Hi Chastity!!!! Long time no see!!! :)

Stewart is SOOOOO cute!!! I love hammies! Bri went downhill very quickly. I didn't have her long at all before she developed what looked like wet tail. I didn't even have time to get her to the vet before she passed. I'm not sure if something else might have been at play as well, because she was literally gone overnight. Where is his sore at? Wet tail is really obvious, because their back end will be "wet" and nasty. It works fast too, so you have to run them to the vet asap. I noticed Bri's over a weekend and she didn't make it till' Monday. There wouldn't be a sore involved with that particular disease, I don't believe. Here's a web site that lists a lot of common ailments:

Also, I saw a person on one site who also mentioned their hammy having a black sore on the side. When she inspected him really close, she found a few more. It turned out to be mites biting the little guy, so that might be a cause. Have you noticed Stewart itching or scratching at all?

This was Bri:

Thanks so much for the site, there is a lot of helpful info. I'm sorry about Bri, what a sweet girl. Wet tail does progress very suddenly, that's actually how I lost one of my piggies (Petunia).

Stewart does not seem itchy and I'm pretty obsessive when it comes to cleaning his cage. Every night when I put him in his exercise ball I clean out any remnants of food or droppings. Another great thing I started using was a small litter pan, it's keeping his cage very dry. His black sore is on his left side and is bigger than a mite bite so I'm not sure what it is. I'll just keep a close eye on it. He seems fine otherwise, still running around in his ball and eating.

Sorry to ramble on and thanks again!

Take Care,
Chastity
