Let's Do This Again STS Dec 28 - Jan 3

Happy New Year all!!! I did some yoga/stretching and BC Core Premix today. Looking forward to Monday and a full STS workout. Janis you quoting "The author contends that it actually signals the body that winter/famine is coming and to store everything that is eaten." Really made me realize that unfortunately I have both going on right now because it IS winter and my body always wants to load up on carbs and add weight to survive it anyway and now that I can't do cardio I'm doubly screwed. At least I burn a decent amount of calories with the STS upper body workouts so that will help a little. Also, I weighed myself today for the first time in ages and so far I haven't gained any weight. I've been trying to cut back my normal calorie intake, since I know I'm burning considerably less calories these days.

What a scary experience with your GWF! Yikes! Glad you could still send it back.

Tara - Yay! not only feeling better, but using the new workouts. Can't wait to hear more reviews.

MJ - what a wonderful week is was for you. What a great feeling for you to know you can go out and play hard!

Heather you're really hitting the workouts hard. Can't wait to hear more reviews.

Sounds like everyone is feeling back up to speed and ready to go all out on Monday!!! I had to laugh when you quoted me Janis, cause I was thinking wow did I actually put the word seriously in there? :D And, yes, I did!

Hi All,

I did Step Moves today; really I should say I tried Step Moves! It was a lot of fun! The choreography is tricky, but I was able to get some of it. I did combo one straight through with a lot of missteps. Then I tried combo 2 & rewound twice to try to get it down. I actually stopped & just watch the screen at one point. After "attempting" to do combo 2 twice, I started combo 3 & then realized that I had spent 40 minutes just doing combo 1 & 2 with all the rewinding and repeating. So, I just watched combo 3 & then the finale with all the combos together. It looks like so much fun! I really love the music! My heartrate stayed elevated even with pausing & rewinding. It was a good cardio workout. I may try doing the warm-up & only combo 3 tomorrow, so that hopefully I'll be able to do the work-out in entirety sometime next week without making too many mistakes!

I just love all the variety of cardio workouts that Cathe has given us! :)

Heather, I think next holiday season I'll do what you have been doing--stepping up exercise routine! Great way to prevent the holiday poundage from coming on, and a excellent way to start the New Year. I had read the posts about MMA Fusion. I'm very curious and eager to try it myself!

Janis, I know what you mean about taking a break from healthy eating. When I'm not exercising, my eating habits go down the drain. The 3 wks in December that I didn't exercise were not good nutritionally. I feel so much better when I'm eating healthy and exercising regularly. I do agree that exercise & healthy eating lifts one's mood & can play an important role preventing/managing depression.
That was so strange about your Go Wear. I'm glad they gave a full refund & that you are okay!

MJ, I'm so glad you enjoyed your tennis getaway! I smiled at your nickname! What else would they expect from a Cathlete? ;)

Cathy, I can pinpoint the times of the year that I'm likely to gain or lose wt. Wintertime is the "likely to gain" season & spring/summer is the "likely to lose" season. I feel more energized in the Spring/Summer. I really believe the decreased hours of sunlight during the winter plan a role in one's energy level too. So, all I can say is that I'm glad we're headed towards Spring! I'm sure you'll maintain your wt & not gain. You're active & are not letting your ankle keep you from exercise altogether, and I'm sure that will be beneficial.

I'm also starting fresh with eating healthy too. I've reset my ticker with a lofty new weight loss goal for 2010 ;). I plan to REALLY do weight watcters online. I've been a subscriber since summer 2007 & did lose 30 lbs that year. Some of it crept back in 2009, but thankfully not all. When life gets stressful, the weight comes on. So, I've made New Year's resolutions to decrease stress such as leaving work no later than 5PM, and getting to bed by 10 PM. My goal for my 40th b-day in Oct is to be 30-40 lbs lighter & 56lbs by the end of the year. Hey, if you're going to set goals, may as well aim high!!!!
I hope that this year will be the year that I do it!!!

Looking foward to starting our rotation on Monday! :)

Have a good weekend!
Tara

Since Saturday is my normal rest day and I woke up about 45 minutes later than usual I decided to stick with that today. I'm working on reworking the undulating rotation with dropping the leg workouts through the first rest week. By the time we hit week 8 I'll be past my 9 weeks since the injury and I'm hoping I can be working back up to using weights for leg work even if it's not my full poundage. Once I get that done I'll set up my own rotation in the workout manager. I just couldn't see putting in the full rotation and having to delete all the ones I couldn't do. I'm on dial-up and having to adjust anything in the calendar is time consuming.

Today is shopping day and it's my oldest turn to come with me and play helper. I found that having one of them with me to get things off the shelf and put them in the cart helps a lot because then I don't have to walk from the cart to the shelf and back. I'll still have to get the high stuff, but that's usually a minority of the stuff.

Tara I think it's great that you're setting a high bar for yourself. I think that when we really challenge ourselves is when we rise to the occasion. Plus we're all hear to cheer you on. :D

Maybe I should put all this sitting time to good use and just watch Step Moves over and over and over now, so that I won't have to spend so much time staring at the TV screen later. :D I've always been one to not preview workouts and just try them, but I usually only have one or two pieces of a Cathe cardio that I can't figure out and have to work on for awhile. Step Moves sounds like it has big chunks that will require that effort. I'm hoping after you guys do them all that you can help me figure out an order to try them from least impact and pressure on the lower leg to most. I figure the Hiit's will have to be last.

Enjoy the day Warriors!

Hey Everyone

I ended up taking a rest day today as we had so much to do and went to bed pretty late. I think it was actually really needed. So I have been contemplating how I am going to use all these new workouts and my old ones over the next weeks. There are so many to choose from! I want to keep running too but don't want to over do it! It's funny but this time of year is my loose weight time as in the summer and fall my work ramps up but this time or year slows right down so that leaves me with much more workout time. I am still deciding between Athletic Step and Cardio Core Circuit for tomorrow... and hopefully a run. I did step on the scale and considering all the working out I am doing my eating is taking it's toll. I need to clean up my habits again!

Janis - I know what you mean about finally needing to rebel against the super clean eating. But now we can get back on track. Do you still follow the Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle system? I am always torn between the Tosca Reno, don't count calories and BFFM philosophy that I need to know. I guess I should really just start writing it down and planning ahead more.
Your GWF experience does not make me feel very interested anymore! Wow that must have really had you wondering! Did they say that they ever have had that happen before? How do you plan on incorporating Insanity, STS cardio and running into the Undulating Rotation?

Tara - I used to follow WW online as well and when I was running and following the program a few years ago I was at my lowest weight ever. But funny , the clothes that I wore then still fit now even though I weigh more. I think that is the weight training! Anyways, I have not found a system that is easier online to use that incorporates foods so easily. My issue is that I want to somehow find a way to eat that is permanent where I don't have to count but I think that to loose weight I will have to do that. I don't think your goals are unrealistic at all! I think that you can get there with some planning. You are a warrior after all!

Cathy - I remember when I had knee surgery (long time ago prekids) and I had reduced mobility and I did not do very well. I was very grumpy! I rolled around the house on an office chair and my DH still occasionally brings that up as if it was some sort of test! Glad you are doing so well. K I am think of chair cardio that could work for you! Keep up the good spirits!

MJ - Hope you have made it home alright and looking forward to Monday...

Cheers Heather

Hi Beauties

I finally did my first Shock Cardio workout today. I did the MMA-kickbox. I liked it a lot, and felt happy that there are a few workouts in the pile that would be great add ons to any workout day...whether it be after an upper body STS rotation or after running or even after Insanity. I thought this workout was fun, effective, fast and invigorating but not exhausting. Win-win.

I am still sorting out my calendar. I, too, am struggling with how to include all my new workouts! The basic outline is running every other day, and STS MWF then an additional lower body weight workout on Saturday. Here's what I have so far:
Wk 1
M - STS M3, SC-Hiit Double Wave
T- Run 4 miles (steady state), SC-MMABoxing
W- STS -legs, SC-MMAFusion
Th- Run 4 mile (intervals), p.m. Insanity Power Resistance
F- STS, SC-Cardio Circuits
S - STS -legs, Run 4mile (steady state)
Su -Insanity Cardio Recovery

Wk 2
M -Run 4.5 miles (steady state), STS M1
T - Insanity Pure Cardio
W -STS legs, Run 3mile (tempo)
Th- SC-Hiit 40/20, Yoga p.m. Insanity Cardio Circuit
F- Run 4.5 miles (Steady State), STS
S -STS-legs, SC-Athletic Step
Su- Run 4.5 Interval

Wk3
M-STS M2, SC-Hiit 30/30
T-Run 4.5 mile (steady state), MMA Boxing
W-STS legs, MMA Kickbox
Th- Run 4.5 mile (interval), p.m. Insanity Power Resistance
F- STS, SC-cardio Circuit
S- run 3mile tempo, B&G
Su-off

The GWF thing was weird. I don't know what caused it, my arm band wasn't tight like a tourniquet. Since we bought it through Amazon we are returning it to Amazon, the only explanation my husband needed to give was that it was defective. I learned a lot from it, but honestly, the numbers are no different than the formula we use with BMR x activity factor. The useful information to me was how different my numbers can be from day to day. Staying active and in motion is absolutely key. Other than that, you still need to log your diet on the Body Media website- so I'll go back to my spread sheet method. I realized over the last few months that if I don't log what I am going to eat BEFORE I eat it, then I end up putting all kinds of stuff in my mouth. For me, having a plan is essential. So, yes, back to Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle. My goals are modest, but if I don't stay on track I gain fairly quickly. Then I look and feel like crap.

Tomorrow I am going to run and then my older two boys and I are going shopping. Should be fun, they're 20 and 18 and they make me laugh very hard.

See ya Monday Warriors!
:D

Hello I'm Cathy and yesterday I ate crap and felt like crap and the really sad thing is that the crap involved no chocolate. If I'm gonna crash, there really should have been chocolate involved. So, now I'm getting back on the clean eating wagon and I need to stay there.

This morning I did leg floor work and some abs on my own. Can't wait to get back into STS tomorrow.

Janis it sounds like you've got a good plan for the next few weeks.

My main activity for the day will be cleaning house. DH is going to attempt to drive Derek to his baseball clinic this afternoon, but he hasn't driven since he hurt his back over a week ago, so I have to ready to go just in case that doesn't work out.

Enjoy your day Warriors!

Good Morning Warriors!

I am back after a very very very very very very very very very very long day of waiting, then finally traveling. Today I am doing laundry, going to the grocery store and straightening up the house before work fun starts again tomorrow. Also, I need to download our rotation and figure out how to incorporate the new workouts, a little insanity and some of my favorite cardios too, oh and plus tennis of course. lol We will see what my mind comes up with, I am anxious to start tomorrow.

Ok, time to rescue laundry from the dryer. Have a great day warriors!

Hi All,

I've spent my day doing laundry and braiding my daughter's hair. Now, I'm about to "practice" doing Step Moves again. :) Also, I need to do my 1RM for front squats & lunges for the Squat Rack legs.

Janis, Enjoy your shopping adventure with your sons! I'm glad you had good things to say about MMA Boxing. I plan to do it this Thursday. Thanks so much for sharing your plan. Gave me some good ideas. I had looked at Cathe's rotation but wanted to do cardio at 5-6 days/week. After seeing yours, I was inspired! I think mine will go something like:
Mon-STS + HiiT
Tues-Shock cardio step or circuit or MMA + abs
Wed-STS Legs
Thurs-Shock cardio step or circuit or MMA +abs
Friday-STS+ HiiT
Sat--cardio + long stretch +abs
Sun--Rest.

Heather, I think listening to your body and resting is a good thing. That way your body will hopefully cooperate with your exercise plans for today! I was so tired on New Year's eve and even though I hadn't planned on sleeping thru the evening, I felt so refreshed and ready to go on Friday. :) Let us know how you liked Athletic Step/Core Circuit (whichever you do). I hear that Core Circuit is one of the more intense ones. I'm anxious to hear your opinion. I enjoy WW online, even though there have been many times I didn't follow the plan! Sometimes counting points does get wearisome, but I do like the flexibility/variety of foods one can eat. I did look hard at Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. It is a great plan too! While doing WW, I'm also trying to avoid sugar & if I do eat sweets, I try eating some with more fiber, like Kashi Oatmeal Raisin Flax cookies or something similiar. And I did Fat Flush a number of years ago--had great success & felt healthier than ever, but it was hard to follow when life got busier/more stressful. I still try to incorporate ideas from that eating plan while doing WW. Hope it all will work together & give me the results I'm looking for this year!

Cathy, Woman if you're going to eat like crap, NEVER FORGET THE CHOCOLATE!!!! ;)
That's essential!!! Sounds like we're all be getting on the clean eating wagon with you & we'll motivate each other to stay on it. :)

MJ, Welcome back from your trip. Sounds the the traveling was long (or at least the waiting). Hope you get rested, refreshed & all the laundry/shopping done! ;)

I look forward to tomorrow & starting our new rotation! :)
Tara

Hey All

I did Cardio Core Circuit this morning and found it to be alot like Insanity and Body Rock tv. I think that BRTV workouts that I have been doing really helped with this workout for endurance! It is intense but not as hard as Insanity. The core work is very challenging and you really are working it all the way through! I never did get that "You really have worked your core because it is burning feeling" but I think with some practice with the rolling moves it will be possible! I really liked it and like that it was similar to Insanity but different. The moves were not quite so high impact but I was really sweating! It was nice to do different core moves too. - Although Cathy you may have to wait a bit to with your ankle. My knees did not love the rolling into a crosslegged position then jumping into a push-up position... I'll have to find a way to make this work.

Cathy I really had to laugh with your comment - "Hello, I'm Cathy and I ate crap! Too funny. I really have the same sentiments. I really want to smack myself out of it. I am hooked on sugar again! Although I did involve chocolate! Sorry... Hopefully your DH can handle driving!

Tara - I feel totally re-juvinated for taking a break yesterday, it was the right choice! Glad you had a relaxing New Years! We'll have to keep each other motivated to keep tracking...

Janis - Thank you so much for posting your planned rotation! I'm going to follow something similar! Glad to hear you like the kickboxing too. I think that I am going to try that very soon too. My work schedule has really slowed down so I am going to take the next week to really look at the BFFM plan and see if I can't make a plan for the next month to follow and see how that goes! Have fun shopping. My almost 8 year old is starting to really get a sense of humour and he is just sarcasm but in a good way. We've been having alot of laughs this Christmas! I am so sad that the holiday is over.

MJ - Glad to hear you made it home... did you get Insanity too? Is that what your message said???

Alright everyone... let's meet back here tomorrow Warriors!
Heather

I'm going to go ahead and start the new check in using Undulating Warriors, so look for it. :D

Tara it's actually a good thing that there is rarely chocolate in the house. Closest thing I had was carob chips and that wasn't going to cut it!
