Lent......

OK.....I do NOT want this post to become a religious discussion, argument, yada yada yada. PLEASE take it as simply as I intend it to be. If you do not like it, then PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO MY POST. Please keep anything negative out of this. I ask this respectfully to all (just to avoid any flames that may arise from folks taking my post the wrong way).

OK...with my disclaimer out of the way.

What do you intend to give up (or take on) during this Lenten Season?

Every year, instead of just giving something up, I usually take the time to re-dedicate myself to doing something positive. I've been giving this some thought this past week, and I've committed myself to 2 things:

1. STOP ABUSING MY BODY with food binges.
I commit to treating my body as the fine machine that it is.
I am giving up binging and doing so in the closet (so to speak).

2. I am taking on the committment to another fundraising event for the Leukemina & Lymphoma Society. I do not have an event chosen yet, and I've been putting off the steps I need to take in order to move forward with my fundraising. NO MORE! I am going to start putting the time and energy into the fundraising for this worthy cause, that's so dear to my heart.

How about you???

Gayle

I responded in the other Lent thread, but just wanted to say I like your take on Lent - making positive changes rather than giving up something. Good luck!

I responded to the other Lent thread, but will respond to this one too since the other one became more of a joke. Too bad it turned out that way. I take my Lenten promises seriously for my faith.

My biggest addiction is soft drink, Dr. Pepper to be exact. I plan to give up all soft drink and my twice weekly Starbuck's white chocolate mocha. I'm also beginning my food journal again and keeping my calories under a managable number instead of trying to eat 1300 calories, which is way too low to sustain over time. I'm going for longevity on this. I'm hoping after Lent to continue to stay away from soft drinks too.

Gayle, I love what you are going to do for Lent. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has a very special place in my heart too. My Dad died at the age of 35 from leukemia. How is your 2nd BFL challenge and HM training going?

What a wonderful way to look at Lent! It's so very positive and yet personal. Now you have got me thinking!

I loved your post, Gayle!

I have taken this approach to Lent before and I am going to be a copy cat!! I have been thinking about your post since I read it yesterday. I am going to do the same as your #1 Lenten promise...honor my body by not binging on foods that are bad for me.

Thank you for the inspriation and reminder of how Lent can be experienced!
Jenn
