Leg workouts with weighted vest

Anyone do any of cathe's workouts with a weighted vest too? I just bought a 20lb vest and was thinking of doing Butt & Gutts with it on and lowering the weight of dumbbells.

I guess I should try Gym Style legs with it too. Ima scared!

I've used a weighted vest in addition to a barbell when doing some workouts where I wanted to squat with weights heavier than what I could lift overhead safely. It's a good way of lifting heavier while staying safe for the shoulders.

For Butts and GuTs, I'd say go for it, but I personally wouldn't use the entire 20# on the vest, maybe 10#, (adding light weights on some exercises if you feel the need). There are some moves that are challenging even with rather light weights (like those lunges with the back foot up on the High Step).

Don't be askeered;-) , just start light and don't be too ambitious at first, until you figure out what works best for you.

Another workout that I think would work well with a weighted vest would be Legs and Glutes. Pretty much every move could be done just with the vest, or with the vest and ankle weights, or added light weights.

Ummm, probably a question that's been asked before, but.... where do I find me a weighted vest? Can you add and subtract weights as needed, or do they just come in one weight and I'll need to order more of them as I get stronger?

thanks!

I love the Ironwear weighted vests (the weights are heavy rubber, so they don't rust like metal, and don't risk leakage like shot/sand). The vests comes with a certain amount of weight in them (usually about 1/2 of what they could hold) and you can buy additional weights. The vest itself weighs about 1 pound.

There are a couple of things I really like about the Ironwear vests aside from the weights: the rubber weights can also be used with their ankle/waist weights; and they offer 'undervests' that you can pick up at some time in the future if you find that the weight you have is getting too light (I like the idea of putting on 2, 20# vests rather than trying to wrestle with 1, 40# vest and maybe wrenching a shoulder in the process).

Their web site is: www.ironwearfitness.com . They're still having their "spring training" sale, with some good discounts offered on some items. (They also make great weighted gloves....not that I'm enabling or anything, LOL!).

I'm cheap, so I used 2 10# ankle weights strapped together around my waist (thanks to a friend's suggestion) to make a weight belt. Cost me $20 from Walmart and really works well.

On one of my last workouts with the "belt", I did the 4DS Kickbox Weights First Premix. Wore the 20# "belt" for the weight portion (added dumbbells as needed for different exercises), and felt light as air when I removed it to do the cardio. ;) It's not purty, but I workout in my spare room and only DH sees me and I'm cheap enough that it works for me.

The weight is adjustable in 2 lb increments, but I just put the whole 20# on and then add dumbbells. I've thought about doing some hill walks on my treadmill using the belt, too.
