Leg workouts & core soreness

Is it only me, or does anyone else find they have DOMS in their core after a heavy leg routine? I can definitely feel my core flexing when I do heavy squats. And the next day I have DOMS in my core area, esp. in my obliques. I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or something right? LOL!

I'm going to vote for "something right".

I get core doms too after a heavy leg workout. Especially if deadlifts are involved.

I would say right as well. They are sort of connected and you should be using your core when you do leg exercises. When you do a deadlift you are using your lower back, and when you squat you have to make sure that your core is tight and engaged...so you must be doing something right.

Core DOMS are great...wish I had them more often!!

Yes! That's why I won't do deadlifts anymore. Too much stress on my lower back. :(

Jenn, I don't know what your core routine is like, but I dedicate my Sat mornings to core, & almost always use weights. I usually do some kind of KB cardio (I love Kimberley Spreen's combat workouts, the cardio w/the weighted bar & med ball really hits the abs hard), then 2 sections of Cathe's routines, which I vary every week. I love Core Max sec. 3 & do that one pretty frequently, but my second section is always different. This week I did CM3 & Ab Circuits Weights & Plates. Felt a good burn on Sunday for sure! :)

Not really, but I did notice last night that STS Abs with the Medicine Ball probably isn't the best choice of ab workouts after doing PUB. I substituted it for the ab section of the video because I don't like doing planks on the ball after a shoulder workout either.

I haven't done any of the CoreMAx workouts in a long time...thanks for the reminder. I am currently doing P90X and I did have some ab DOMS the first week, but none since. As much as I love AbRipper, I get bored soemtimes with it...so I may need to mix it up a bit. I love Weights and Plates.

No core DOMS here, but I know I don't lift anywhere near heavy enough to get a truly "heavy" leg workout. You ladies that do must really have an awesome workout!

I don't typically get core DOMS after leg weight work . . . but I do get the reverse sometimes. After a tough core workout I will get DOMS in my legs, especially the quad area if the workout involved hanging moves, Vups, stuff like that. They're not "I can't walk, sit, or stand" DOMS, but there's definitely some soreness.

When you do squats with challenging weight your "core muscles" are acting as stabilizers during the lift. Soreness in your obliques means they are doing their job. Be sure to work them as well as your back on non-leg days to keep all of your muscles balanced and avoid injuries.

Congrats on your soreness :)
