Does anyone have advice, my husband's legs and feet kill him. He said he can't go for walks b/c it hurts and I can't get him to do yoga to stretch them. He is on his feet for over 12 hours every day. Does anyone have any advice on what could work?

Hi,

Does anyone have advice, my husband's legs and feet kill him. He said he can't go for walks b/c it hurts and I can't get him to do yoga to stretch them. He is on his feet for over 12 hours every day. Does anyone have any advice on what could work?

My dh has severe PF and actually had to have the tendons cut on the bottom of his feet. Even after that his feet still bother him terribly.

His DR. told him to wear good supporting shoes.
Also he went to the Good Feet Store I think it's called and got fitted with orthotics. EXPENSIVE. like hundreds of dollars.

Still after all that his feet still bother him. However he told me the other day that they are feeling better and he thought it was because when he is is the shower he does these stretches. He puts one foot up against the shower wall and gets a good stretch at the bottom of his foot then alternates to the other and he said that's the only change he has made.

I've told him they make special socks that have a strap that attach the toes of the sock to the sock band which holds the foot in a stretched position and you wear these overnight.

Also my Dh and I both work at the same plant where the floors are reinforced concrete (the concrete has steel mixed in or steel rods or something like that to support the weight of heavy equipment, forklifts etc. throughout the plant) My legs and hamstrings would get really stiff and sore. I bought me a pair of dr. Martins boots and I found that they really helped and don't have any problems until i don't wear my boots for a while then it comes back so I know those really helped.

Maybe you could be a drill sargeant and make him do some yoga like down dogs and other mild stretches for 5 or 10 minutes a day.

My husband is not on his feet all day, and yet, his legs ache, too. He swears by Centrum vitamins. If he takes his vitamins, he's ok. Not sure this will help though, as it sounds like your husband may be fatigued.

I too, have PF and, though I have custom orthotics, the "orthotics" I got from the New Balance store are the one's in my shoes all day. I can tell you if you have foot problems you should see an orthopedic surgeon to find out what's up, first. I'm on my feet all day and shoe inserts of some type are crucial. BTW, I'm on my feet all day, also and my surgeon said my feet are almost completely flat. Explains a lot.

All great suggestions I am actually going to try to mention all of them in hopes that he will try one of them :)

Just wanted to add that I kind of have to guilt my dh into taking better care of himself. So at least now he is doing what little stretches he does do and he does do the stationary bike. I tell that's good but he also needs to do some resistance training. I tell him that I need him to be around for a long time and i want him to be healthy. I'll say "honey you are a big man and I'm not going to be able to lift you if you become disabled so you'll have to go to a nursing home" . lol
It must be doing some good because he asked me about what exercises he should do but he said he doesn't want to do videos. He actually TRIED a cathe video when I wasn't home but didn't like the exercising to video. I told him he should just do a few just for the instruction that cathe gives then after he learns the moves he can do what he wants on his own. Maybe this approach would work with your DH. i dunno it's worth a try.

good luck!
