lateral stability vs cushioning

aerobic shoes that is. Can't I get one shoe with both features? I had the rykas which I love when doing lateral moves but where horrible when it came to cushioning. Absolutely awful...none. Two months ago I ordered saucony midi. Love the stability, still not cushioned enough. Two weeks ago I tried the new Nike Air Max 2009 running shoe. Love the cushioning, but low along the sides. I was afraid I would certainly twist an ankle coming down on a power box move pr when doing a pivot turn. Plus the $160 price tag was too steep.

Is there one shoe out there that is supportive enough when doing lateral moves and cushions the impact when doing Body Max 2 cardio moves? :(

Love to hear your suggestions.

Carmen.

Take out the insoles that came with the shoes and replace them with something cushier. I like Profoot Aero-3 Air-cell insoles. I put them in my hiking boots, my walking shoes and my DVD workout shoes. Dr. Scholl's and Spenco also have lots of different types of insoles too. Try your local sporting goods stores for Spenco, Target or a pharmacy for the others. Since you already have the shoes, maybe a few more dollars invested in a better insole would make them work for you.

Carmen,
Try going to an shoe store that specializes in athletic shoes and talk to their salespeople. (there are running specialty shops around where the salespeople actually know what they are talking about.) They may be able to help you find the type of shoe that works best for you. Some stores even do a gait analysis to find the right shoe (though they do this mostly for runners, they might be able to help with cardio shoes as well. Doesn't hurt to ask!).

You also might look into socks like Thorlo for added cushioning.

Stick with the aerobic studio shoe with the replacement inner liner. This is what I have done for over 10 years. Makes my Rykas work like a dream. Certainly, avoid running shoes for aerobics. Not a good idea. Twisted ankles a distinct possibility and cushioning is not in the right places: running heel strike vs. ball of foot for stepping.
