Laser Vein Removal

Have any of you ever had your spider veins removed by laser?I'm having mine on my legs done in the morning and wanted to see if anyone had any helpful hints. If you have had this done, did you wear your support pantyhose for six weeks (as recommended by my doctor)? Did you have to stay off your feet and away from exercise for a day or two after the procedure? How effective was your treatment in zapping the spider veins? Thanks for any information you can share!

Good luck and let us know how it goes. I know I'll be a candidate within the next few years. DH thinks I'm nuts, but my little veins are starting to bug me as they increase in number.

We're talking spider veins, not varicose, right? I had the spider veins done on my face. It was a cakewalk. It was a bit uncomfortable when it was being done, but I was totally normal within 2-3 hours.

I would like to know results from the laser removal or if anyone has had the scleratherapy for the spider veins.

I had the EVLT varicose vein procedure done in early Feb. and was VERY pleased with the results. That is the endovenous laser therapy for the bulging varicose veins, not the spider veins.

However, I am getting sclerotherapy done next Thurs on my spider veins on the outside of my thighs. The technician who does it says I should only have to have one treatment, so I figured what the heck.

I really have always disliked my legs - they are not thin, they are stocky German legs. Anything I can do to make me feel better about them!

Heidi
I'll let you know how the sclerotherapy goes as far as results.

Now that the weight is coming off I'm really bothered to find spider veins in places where I was never able to look before(!). So what are the various procedures and how do they rate in comparison?

I remember they used to inject saline solution into spider veins and they'd just shrivel up. Sounds effective enough to me (and safe) but I guess they don't do that anymore? What do the procedures cost?

The laser procedure I'm having in the morning costs $250. I don't know how much the saline treatment costs. Also, I didn't research the effectiveness of saline vs. laser treatments. I like the idea of not using needles on my veins. I will report back after the treatment and let you know how it worked. I do know that the nurse said it will take a couple of weeks before the veins aren't visible.

I have stocky German legs as well, and do have some veins that bother me. How long did it take you to recover? My step mother-in-law had it done and she had to wear special hose for a month and couldn't do any heavy lifting. That's probably the main thing that has held me back.

TIA

For those asking about sclerotherapy - I have had sclerotherapy several times for spider veins and was generally very pleased with the results. I wore the support hose for 48 hours as recommended (pretty much essential if you want the results from what I understand.) The only option I have now is laser as the plastic surgeon I went to for the procedure no longer offers Scleroderm (not saline but it is what you are talking about). :( I want to do it soon though as it has been over 5 years and with all this cardio, my legs are starting to look bruised again!

Oh, back then, 1 cc (the maximum they could inject safely at a time) was $80. (not bad!) Most times people need several treatments but mine were eradicated (all but the very small ones) with one treatment. They do grow back (not the original veins, but the process continues especially the more vascular the area... and those of us who exercise have great blood flow! LOL)

p.p.s. It took 30 days to get rid of the bruising (the scleroderm pushes the blood out of the veins, collapsing the veins behind them). It takes a bit for your body to reabsorb the blood... so I suppose more cardio would make it go away faster. ;)

Oh, and the laser therapy here costs about $125. I have a feeling my part of the world is a bit cheap when it comes to all that though! (It is about time something was cheaper...)

Oh wow. I think getting rid of the spider veins is going to be more than reasonable... as opposed to all that other stuff I'd love to be able to afford but can't possibly.

DDJ -

As far as the EVLT treatment for my varicose veins, recovery was fairly uneventful. Yes, I had to wear those damned compression hose - thigh high on the affected leg for 2 weeks. I'd say that was the most annoying part. There was some burning along the entire treated vein and some pain where the incisions were made for the phlebectomies. I am a vet and also a runner so getting back to activity was also a concern for me. The discomfort (and hose) did keep me from doing too much for the first few weeks - but I was able to work, just didn't lift large dogs, just chihuahuas;)

Once the hose came off in 2 weeks, they let me go back to normal activity. I really couldn't run for 3 weeks, though, as it still burned some.

I'm SO glad I had it done - it looks 100% better.

I'm hoping I'm as happy with the sclerotherapy. My sclerotherapy will cost $300 which I thought was pretty reasonable, especially since he thought one treatment would do. NOT looking forward to hose again (and now on both legs) although this time it's only for a week.

HTH,
Heidi

Thanks, Heidi. That doesn't sound quite as bad was what my SMIL went through. Maybe your fitness level helped some with recovery.

Are you pleased with the results? Hope everything went well.
