Lack of funds, but need equipment!

Anyone else eyeballing more equipment, but just can't quite part with the green?

If I could get everything necessary I would get:
-A high step (I only have the original with two risers per side and leg presses would be way more effective with a higher step and would make other exercises more comfortable)
-35's, 40's, and m/b 45's lb DB in prep for STS
-A power tower also in prep for STS
-Slanted risers, yes, also for STS

That about sums up my immediate, most wanted additions. But, I just can't spring for it right now. Maybe soon.

Anyone feelin' my pain?

Yes, not only with the green, but with the space !

I had figured out I can use the dumbell bars that came with my barbell for heavier dumbell weight and order the pace weights so I can increase in increments less than 5 lbs.

May end up with a weighted vest since I don't want squat racks.

I have old "Firm" benches and one is the transformer and already use that for slanted benchwork. It is sufficient.

Maybe you can find a study step stool or use a chair for the high step? As long as it is sturdy !

Course there's always ebay . . .}(

I know exactly what you mean. I have enough stuff to get by, but have a list:) I would like the slanted risers and a pull up bar. I have a vkr tower that I use for leg raises and dips. I have put a bar across the top of this and done pull ups but it would be so much better having the right equipment. I also have adjustable dumbbells but would like to buy several pair of heavier since my hex ones end at 25lbs.. I purchased the STS series but waited till the last day to do it. I would also like some Kettlebells. My list just keeps growing LOL

I have spent so much money on equipment lately  But it's all stuff I needed/wanted. I can honestly tell you one of the best things I ever got was my chinup tower. I've had it for almost 2 years and love it!!

BTW here's one similar to mine at amazon with no shipping:

I feel your pain, and I'm right there with you!:)
So far I've bought the perfect pushup and the slanted risers. I still have the squat rack and the alternative equiptment for pullups from Cathe on my wish list. I also have one 35# db, and one 40# db and would like its pair.... So much I want to buy and so little in the budget!!:) Surprisingly, I had no hesitation buying STS! I know Cathe will whip me into even better shape, extra equiptment or not!LOL

There's always something else to buy isn't there? Seems like no matter how much I spend I always want something else. :-(

Buy the Topper for your risers so that you can have a high step. I did that, I chose not to buy a new High Step with more risers but just the Topper instead. It's cheaper. Cathe sells it here.

For me, I just donated my old Firm Step with my old Firm DVDs and VHSs on it to a Christian Mission group outside of town.

For barbells and dumbbels, try Amazon or Ebay for a deal. Or Craigslist or garage sales.

Hope you get your stuff you desire.

Catherine, thanks for the link on the power tower you bought. Does it take up a lot of space? Can you put it up against a wall and still use both sides?

Diane Sue, I've looked at Kettleballs, all I can say is get your wallet ready. Those are REALLY expensive!

I've looked on Ebay for DB and steps and risers, but no screaming deals yet, but I'll keep my eyes out!

I will definitely be hitting garage sales this year! I've already got that planned.

I'll have to check out Craigslist, I've never heard of this.

All in all, I don't mind spending money on this stuff, in fact, I love it! It's a much better obsession than a lot I can think of, and as long as I use it, I can justify it. I didn't mind buying STS either...it will be well worth it IMO!

Yes, I feel your pain--

I want

35, 40, and 45lb dumbells
2 sets of pace weights (18 total)
slanted risers
a medicine ball
another stability ball (the kids have ruined 2 so farx(

I already have a squat rack and it has a pull up bar on it, problem is it's out in the garage, so I also need

a portable dvd player

It's really adding up, but fortunately I'm pregnant and won't be able to do STS until about 6 weeks post partum, which should be sometime in October. Buys me time.....

Maggie:)

I feel your pain too -- I am beginning to regret the purchase of STS due to not having plate mates and/or pace weights, a new lifting glove, heavier weights, etc. I am not rolling in cash these days.

I also do not have room for a pull up bar, a squat rack or a free wall for those damned wall squats. I sold Drill Max due to the use of a wall.

And when I think of the paper plate expense......(OK I am being silly on that one).

The wish list is long but I am doing my best to take a break from the consumer culture for a while.

Dave,
I'm a member at Freecycle.org!! I give away stuff on there all the time and find so many things there that are great. I'm so glad to see someone else uses it!!! It's been a life saver for me. It's a great way to "recycle" items you don't want anymore to keep them out of the landfills. My sister just got a treadmill from freecycle.org!

Beavs,

If you find the item through freecycle you are totally breaking the consumerism trend. You get the item for free (gas for the pickup), the donor gets the item out of his/her way without filling up the landfills.

We are super low on funds, so I have to sell something before I can buy something. Helps with the money problem and the space problem and collecting to much stuff!
