L.B.S. update

Hi all :)

Way back at the end of Dec.01, there was a thread about Lower Body Solution (1st time I ever heard of it!), and I took in all the advice (pro/con) and I decided to try it for myself.
A few of you asked me to update later as to results, so since I got my first "whistle" yesterday, I thought today would be a good time to update! :)
I began on Jan 1st, so this is my 10th week using L.B.S. I work my lower body 5x/week, 3x/week w/weights and 2x/week of non-weighted floorwork. The first change was an increase in lower body strength, but I began to see visible changes about the 5th week. I really hadn't thought too much about the outer changes (pants fitting better in the legs/thighs) until yesterday when I put on a pair of pantyhose and a skirt, the skirt just stopped at my knee cap, so for the first time I noticed my legs and my first thought was, "d--n! my legs look good as s--t!" :) And then later that morning, a male friend of ours whistled at me and my ego was off the charts!
So~at least for me, L.B.S. seems to be working. My legs really have firmed up, I am still battling "mushiness" at the top of my inner thighs, but like my upper arm area, apparently those areas are going to be the last places to release stored fat. So I'm just going to have to be patient and keep losing.
But for Katie and a few others who were wondering if it was worth it, it has been for me. It is inconvenient every now and then depending on the rotation I'm doing, but I find if I just do effective lower body workouts then I don't have to add much time on. My floor leg workouts are anywhere from 15min-30min.
So they aren't too time consuming.
At some point I'll do a maintanence thing and probably work my legs only 4x/week, 2x w/ weights and 2x without, but I believe it is either a 16 or 18 week program so I have another 6-8 weeks before that happens.
But hey, I haven't been whistled at since I was in my 20's, so at 38, my head still can't fit through the front door it's so big right now! :)

That *is* great news. I'm gonna pass your testimonial along to others that I know have been wondering about this program.

Congratulations on the wolf whistle!!! Robin.

In my next life when I'm reincarnated as a Rockette, they will whistle at my legs. Until then, I will show off my upper bod and wear longer pants. It's tough when one leg gets good muscle tone and the other one doesn't (poor circulation due to phlebitis and vericose veins). My right leg is looking pretty good, but the other one seems to be a lost cause.

Getting a leg extension attachment on a weight bench seems to have really helped, as well as the inner thigh work. In by case, working two days a week did as much as four to six days.

Just shows that we are all different.

But, hey, Donna, you go, girl! Keep up the good work. You have a right to be very proud, and you're a good example.

Donna: I don't know what the email equivalent of a wolf call is - but I'd send you one if I could! Way to go!!!!

I'm starting over with a beginner rotation as soon as I'm released to lift again in April. I guess I still don't understand your program, is it heavy lifting 3x per week or 3x per week high reps/lighter weights? My legs get so bulky so easily.... sigh.

Katie

Katie, I know that Donna is the expert, but there is a LBS website (I don't know the web addy, but I'm sure someone around here does) and, I believe that the idea is to work at 70% capacity, since you're working legs so often. This is why it's supposed to slim down the legs and not bulk them. I'll try to find the link.

Robin.

Hi Katie,

I originally started out "heavy" at like 50-60#, but found early on that it was not right for me, not so much bulking, as just wearing myself out!
I find that 40# is just about right for me regardless of the video. From MIS-PowerHour-PS-Leaner Legs I use 40# and for a quicker paced workout like ctx power circuit or circuit max, I'll drop down to 30 or 35#. I find it's a comfortable weight and while I still feel the burn, I don't wear myself out in a bad way (overtraining).

I just recently acquired a Firm leg video (Standing Legs) and it is a "humm-dinger!" I can only use a 25#bb for the bb leg presses, so I guess it's all about the workout itself. That video works some legs!
Donna :)

How does this program make you lose fat without bulking up? I would love to lose fat and not bulk up, but unfortunately thats
what I seem to do. Can you clue us in as to what exercises you do, etc? Thanks

Level?

Katrid,
Who knows? I got the basic info from this forum and the website, which I cannot remember, but there is a llllooonnnggg thread on it somewhere here that posts the website.
I basically just decided that 6 days a week was too much for me, so I'd go with 5 and see how I did.
Donna

Sure :)

My weighted workouts are any of the following:

MIS, PowerHour, PS-L&A (weights section), S&H Legs or CTX LL
using 40# bb, Firm: Standing Legs using a 25# bb.

My non-weighted workouts are any of these:

Reebok Versa Training Strong Legs, Crunch: Killer Legs, Firm: Sculpted Hips, Buns and Thighs, PS-L&A (floorwork section)

I can only assume that because the legs are the largest muscle group, that working them so often is what's burning more fat!? I have no clue as to the "mechanics" of it, it's been true trial and error, but it's allowed me to eat comfortably (1800-1900 cal/day) and still lose weight and firm up. So ANYTHING that lets my happy a** eat AND lose weight is a winner in my book! :)

Let me know if you wanted more specifics, but I generally just rotate the weighted workouts and non-weighted workouts in cycles of 3 weeks to keep my legs guessing.

Way to go Donna! :) I've been doing LBS rotation for a few weeks now and I'm really starting to notice the difference in my lower ab section finally. My legs are normally muscular anyway (I'm a runner, too) but my lower ab section was a mess. After three pregnancies it was pretty poochie. Well, this program has really melted some of that fat and my hips and butt have firmed up, too. I took a week off this week (was inspired to do a Firm week by the infomercial, LOL) but I'm going back to it next week. Congratulations! :)
