Kristin Kagan--Frustrated!

I really want to love her step tape Step this Way, but I'm such a darn clutz!! I tried the choreography a few months ago and got too frustrated and put it away. Today I was feeling motivated and had the day off so I gave it another whirl. About 15 minutes into the workout after much rewinding and pausing. I ejected it and put in MIC which I did in its entirety...yippee!! I'm seriously thinking about putting this one up for trade if I cant get the moves after another try or two. I wish I could find a purely athletic step tape with no dancey moves that has the intensity and fun factor of a Cathe tape!!

Any suggestions??

Thanks,

Stacy

Stacy - have you tried Mindy Mylrea? Her workouts are very athletic, but not dancy at all.

I had a problem with Cathe's MIS step workouts (circuit and all). I hated doing them because I just couldn't keep up. So I shelved it for 1 month.

Then I remembered some years back I had purchased "Buns of Steele" workouts when step exercise was new. So I searched for that tape and voila! Most of the steps that Cathe is doing it in 'fast' motion are in this workout.

Once I learned the basics it was easy. Believe it or not, just last week...YES LAST WEEK I for the first time tried Cathe's MIS 'warm up' only. And it was fun and easy! Easy because now I knew what I needed to do.

Perhaps you need to buy a really basic step. I suggest Cathe's own very first VHS by SNM. It's in the catalogues.

Warning: You will be shocked to see Cathe's 'transformation'. I look today, like Cathe looked like back then. So it was a real motivator too!

I second the Mindy Mylrea recommendation. Doing Mindy along with Cathe makes me feel more well-rounded, in the fitness sense, anyhoo. She's tough and fun.

I have a few of Mindy's strength/cardio tapes, and actually have previewed one, attempted one and the other I am slowly catching on to. I dont have any of her pure cardio tapes...any suggestions?? I have all of Cathe's tapes and dont have any problem with her choreograpy, after about the 2nd try I can do her tapes, maybe b/c I'm used to her movements. Thanks for everyone's responses.

I think 2K02 - Slammin Sports Cardio - would be a good place to start. I also like 2101 - Extreme Intervals - very tough. Action Packed is good, but is a little trickier with the choreography and Mindy's cueing is not the greatest (same with 2101 in my opinion). She has two new workouts - Interval Express and Strength Express - I don't have these, so I can't really give my opinion about them. You could read more about them at VF though. Have fun!

RE: Stacy - Did you watch it ALL once before trying it?

Hi Stacy

Step this Way is a lot of fun and similar in some ways to Rhymthic Step actually. I was frustrated by both of these tapes the first few times but eventually caught on to them. This being said, if you are fairly new to Cathe, these tapes are not the ones to begin with. Both Step this Way and Rhymthic Step assume one is familiar with certain patterns and steps (I think anyway).

I would suggest that you watch it all at least one time through. Then, on a rest day or after a workout where you feel you worked hard enough, play with doing Step this Way a few minutes at a time.

Which part are you finding difficult? For me, I know the part right after you do the reverse hop still gets me but I wing it and make it work. Oh and once you can get past the hesitation move and reverse turn straddle, you'll be laughing.

I have to admit to having hit rewind quite a few times one day but it will come if you don't give up on it.

Hi. Ive been stepping with Cathe for over two years now and have all of her tapes. Rhythmic step took me about 3 times to learn. So far I've attempted Kagan's tape twice and am nowhere near knowing even half of it. Pretty much all of the moves confuse except your basic knee ups, etc..

I agree with Stacy. I have been doing Cathe tapes for years, and didn't have any problems at all with Rhythmic Step. But with Step This Way I was TOTALLY frustrated. I think she needs to give more left and right direction or something. I haven't completely given up on it yet, but it really makes me appreciate Cathe's great cuing.
