KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS!

Gotta go over to the dark side: the Twin Cities here in Minnesota has gotten its first Krispy Kreme doughnut store - it opened at 5:30 a.m. and people started lining up for their first dozens at 5:30 P.M. last night!

I realize that, in the universal and historical scheme of things that doesn't seem like much, but man, a Krispy Kreme doughnut is like heaven in a green and white box!

Any other Krispy Kreme fans out there?

Annette

Yes!

Our closest one is about 40 min away so when I finally made the trip I came home with 2 dozen. My husband was like "what are you gonna do with all those?" Eat them, of course!

RE: Yes!

Unfortunately, there is a store right around the corner from my office. I usually give in once a week, and yes, they are pure heaven in a box, if that is possible!

RE: Yes!

I love them. When I was pregnant that was my one and only real craving. I worked up until about 3 weeks before I had my son and one day a co-worker went and bought a dozen or two of the cream filled and other filled ones. I ate like 4 at one time. That was soooooooooooo good! It was great to satisfy a preggo craving. Unfornately I still crave them but I would never eat 4 at a time now! :-(

Funny you should mention these doughnuts because I just finished eating a glazed one before I logged on. I love them but we don't have stores where I live. The closest is about 2 hours away and when they guys from the office there come up they bring us some.

Gotta love them!!

I hate them. They taste to me like sweet air. Thank goodness, no temptation there.

But as doughnuts go, they're not too bad calorie-wise (200 each)

I too am one of those people who can pretty easily avoid sweets like ice cream and doughnuts. However if they opened up a Lays Potato Chip store near my house I'd be in serious trouble!! I'd give a whole new meaning to the phrase "couch potato"!!

Hey I to am from MN and I have heard all about the KRISPIE KREME how could I miss all the hype on the news.
Here's the great thing about it - donuts do nothing for me.
Now if we were talking chocolate or bagel shop that would be a whole different story.

We take them for granted here, Akron/Canton, OH, where they've had them for years and years. I personally like bigger ones myself....I'm a fan of huge cream sticks, and a lot of grocery store bakeries have them. I like donuts with "stuff" in them, like jelly rolls and cream sticks.

But, hey, I'm happy for you with your new donut store. Just like we were a very few years back when we got Walmart and Cracker Barrel. I thought I'd croaked and gone to heaven when they built those local Cracker Barrels!

The simple pleasures of a boring person....donuts and Walmart!

hi honey bunch-- i thought debbie h was the only other one on this forum from akron/cleveland/canton.(i live in parma but grew up in akron) . i am with you about the donuts, though: give me a chocolate covered cream stick over a glazed ANYTIME (well, almost anytime.)and then i can walk to walmart!!

Listen, Ladies!!!!!

It's a good thing doughnuts aren't my "downfall"....LOLOLOL Because they opened a brand new one just 2 miles away. Now, if only the Braum's ice cream store were further away.....<sigh>.....

You guys are making me really hungry!

I live in Chardon - not too far from Parma! And I'm a cream stick lover too - delicious!!

Ha!

Creme Sticks must be an Ohio thing! I LOVE chocolate creme sticks. It HAS to be the white filling, NOT that yellow custard stuff! Looks like Lisa, Erica, HB and I have to make a roadtrip to the midway point and FIND a Krispy Kreme!! You guys have me drooling now. :9 :9 :9

RE: Listen, Ladies!!!!!

They had a huge Krispy Kreme store right next to my college campus (Univ. of Florida, Go Gators!). Now I live in Dallas and they carry Krispy Kreme in my Albertson's right around the corner!! There doughnuts are the best.
My favorites are the chocolate cake doughnuts with the glazing over it. I used to chow down in college, but not anymore!

RE: Listen, Ladies!!!!!

I have one so close I could walk to the darn thing. However, I don't really care for them that much. Thank heaven. Unfortunately, I LOVE the doughnuts Eric gets for us at a local shop run by one family. Sigh. New addiction. Double sigh.
Stacy...my grandmother lives in Hanover PA, home of Utz Potato Chips. Every time we go up there...which is often...that's all I can smell. Makes me crazy! I LOVE potato chips!! Triple sigh

Actually, I think it's pretty funny that people line up in places at new KK franchises! YIKES! I can't imagine that!

RE: Listen, Ladies!!!!!

Waaah.

I feel like a deprived kid.

I never had a crispy kreme or a cream stick (don't even know what that is).

Crispy Kreme opened a store in Metairie (a suburb of New Orleans) a few years ago but I never ventured in there. Guess I am afraid I will find a new addiction I don't need. When I pass by in my car I make sure I look the other way in the direction of an upappetizing gas station on the opposite corner.

Hey Marlene!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-23-02 AT 06:13PM (Est)[p]Do you know what a Long John is??? Supposedly people down South call Creme sticks, Long Johns? When my sis moved down to Florida, she asked the lady in the bakery if she could have a creme sick and the lady said, "What is a creme stick?" Just be glad you don't know what they are~THEY ARE TOO GOOD!! :)

I've never actually had a Krispy Kreme doughnut - are they that much different from a regular, glazed doughnut? I've heard so much about them I'm almost scared to try one. .

However, in the last 2 weeks, I've had quite a problem with Mother's animal circus cookies (the kind with pink/white frosting and sprinkles) - I buy a big box and eat the whole thing within 2 days. I think I have an addiction to them. I just cannot buy them anymore because I will eat them non-stop if they are in my house.

RE: Ha!

I don't post often (just read DAILY), but I just had to jump in on this one. I've never tried a Krispy Kreme - I'm too afraid I'd find yet another delicious food I'd have to battle. But I live in NE Ohio, too! I'm in the Jackson Twp./N. Canton area. I had no idea that so many of the people I've been reading were practically neighbors. That's so cool!
