KPC question

I've never done kick boxing before but I have recently received the KPC DVD. Cathe shows the moves at the beginning and I gave it a try. I didn't do the whole thing because the moves felt so awkward to me. Right now I run and do step for my cardio workouts and really want to add something else in order to challenge my body in a new way.

I would greatly appreciate it if any of you would share pointers and/or advice on this kickboxing DVD?

Thanks so much.

Just do one portion at a time until your body gets used to the moves. Punch from the body, not just with your arm. Turn your foot and trunk towards the direction of the punch, especially when you're doing crosses and hooks. When doing uppercuts, move your trunk so that your shoulder dips and you shorten the distance between your hip and your rib cage. Don't bend your wrist. Keep it straight so the uppercut doesn't land on your cheek. (Happened to me before.) Keep your elbows close to the rib cage, and your fists close to your chin so that your chin and fists form a triangle. And remember to snap and recoil -- punch (don't lock your elbow) and quickly get back to guard. When you kick, don't lock your knee. You don't have to do all the jump kicks in KPC. Pay attention to the chambers that Cathe introduces at the start of the workout because these are where your kicks start. Don't make the height of your kicks an issue. That can come later. Just get your form right, especially the side kicks and roundhouses, where you turn your base heel towards the direction of the kick. Try doing just the warm-up to get a feel of the punches and kicks, and how the rest of your body moves with them. You don't have to punch and kick hard. Just try them out and enjoy the flow.:) You can do this.

Thanks Pinky!!!!

Pinky,

What great info for all the beginner kickboxing people! You always seem to know the right way to explain something to the rest of us. You're right about doing a little at a time when you're just learning something. That's how I started out with Imax 2 and KPC even though I had prior kickboxing experience. Now I can complete all of it.

Thanks for always being so patient and informative.:)
