KPC, how do I do it???

I tried KPC today for the first time. I made it through the first combo after all the intensity stuff, before my mind was so befuddeled I just gave up. Any suggestions on how to get the next 2 combo's? Break them up and just practice as not part of a workout? I really enjoyed the workout up to that point and was sweating like crazy, but I was tripping over myself towards the end. Thanks!:)

I don't know how much kickboxing you've done before, but I'm guessing maybe not a lot? It takes a while to build up to being able to do kick and punch combos smoothly and remember what comes next.

Breaking up the combos might help. Or even doing the warm-up, then skipping the part that you already somewhat have down, and going right into the section that gives you trouble, so you approach it while you're fresh.

I would suggest also doing a combo at a time as a warmup to other workouts, much the way you might approach step combos. That way you are learning the moves but still getting a good workout.

Good luck! KPC is so much fun!

Hi Susan,

I would just say to you that while you are learning KPC, don't expect to look like Cathe and Lorraine and Jai while doing it. Trust me, few do...haha. And you don't have to get all the moves down perfectly. It's OKAY. It will come to you and you will get "smoother" after doing it for a while. I promise!:)

I think what you have in mind is a good idea..Maybe you could get through one combo after the intensity stuff and get comfortable with that and then add on and try to get through the next one and stay there until you feel comfortable. It is a lot to learn if you have never done kickboxing before.

Have fun!! P.S. You should see me when I do the jab, cross, hook, upper, pop, pop duck...I look a fool and I tripped all over myself and actually punched myself a few times when I first started!!!

I would add one combo to the end of a workout 3x's a week so that you practice each combo once a week. Don't focus on intenstiy or getting a cardio workout from this; simply try to learn the moves. The first combo, once you get the moves, is so fun. Just repeat in your head as you learn the upperbody portion: jab, cross, hook, upper, pop pop, duck. Do the same for the lower body: knee, kick, jump kick, set. Do this for the second combo also: Jab high, low, triple, cross. There's a weird mind/body thing that happens and if you think the moves, your body will (eventually) simply follow suit. I LOVE KPC. It's one of my top 5 favorite Cathe's - and that's saying a lot!

Just curious, how does everyone compare KPC with Kickmax? I have Kickmax and love it. Is KPC more difficult or have more intricate routines than Kickmax?

I actually like KPC better than KickMax, although I like both. KPC is more pure kick box without the blasts and leg conditioning exercises.

As for getting through the combo's - do KPC once a week and do the combos. Every time you do them, they will get easier. I had troubles at first too (and I have a Kick Box, Tae Bo and Tae Kwon Do background), but they are a lot easier now. I still get a killer workout - the same as doing IMax 2 - according to my heart charts.

Totally agree. I couldn't get the stuff out of my head. My kids always know when I do KPC because I walk around the house doing, pop pop, duck. I've only done the condensed fit-tv version, but I love it. It will be one of the ones I purchase.

Have fun with it.

I love KPC, but also had a little trouble in the beginning. I have done Tae Bo for years but this was definately a new challenge. First I started with the premix of just the cardio conditioning (I love it)then I added one combo at a time. I LOVE KPC!!! Good Luck!!!

Thank you everyone! Though I have been doing step for years, kickboxing is fairly new to me! My arms were surprisingly sore today though. I will keep at it. I think it's loads of fun.
