Knee surgery and exercise

I saw an orthopaedic surgeon yesterday because I damaged some "shelf", as he put it, in my knee, and he is trying to help me avoid surgery. I start PT tomorrow to try and strength some muscles under my quad to hopefully pull the "shelf" back out where it is supposed to be.

I am nine months postpartum and I don't want to lose the progress I've made getting back into shape, but he says step aerobics are out! The only Cathe video I have that has floor aerobics is Maximum Intensity Cardio. Any other suggestions of dvds or videos I can get to do? My husband has an elliptical, but I hate that thing. I'm going to trying bicycle riding as soon as I go buy one, but other than that, I have no ideas. Help!:-(

Actually, you can do any Cathe step aerobic tape without a step. If that would be confusing, you can take some masking tape and make a rectangle on your floor in the shape and size of a step and use that as a guide. You can further modify the jumping moves if you need to. :)

The Cross Train (CTX) Series: several of the cardio segments are hi/lo and kickbox, including "0-10-10" the warm-up and hi/lo segment from "Power Circuit", and the "Kickbox" workout. Be careful about any lateral movements as well as movements that involve pivots and turns.

"Kick Punch Crunch" ("KPC"), on the same DVD as "Legs And Glutes"; total floor kickbox

"Kick Max" from the latest Hard Core Series; also total floor kickbox as well as standing stationary leg conditioning drills

"Cardio Kicks" on the same DVD as "Circuit Max"; again, total kickbox-flavored floor cardio. Note too that "Circuit Max" has as its warm-up and first three cardio cycles hi/lo and floor kickbox cardio; you can always fast-forward through the resistance cycles if it's pure cardio you want

"Step Jump and Pump" on the same DVD as "Step Blast": although much of this workout is step, there are four hi/lo segments (the last of which is low-impact) and includes a premix that strings all four hi/lo segments together without the resistance cycles
