Knee question

Cathlete
Hi Cathe,
I've started to have some knee ache and was wondering what could be the cause. Could the shoes or the way I'm stepping be the cause? Could you give me any edvice on this issue?

Thank you
Katia

Katia,

What step height are you using? I started having a problem with my left knee (and I've never had knee trouble my entier life), so I tried lowering my step from 8" to 6" on the majority of Cathe's step workouts. My knee pain has since disappeared, so it was all about step height for me. I still 8" on circuit workouts, but for stuff like IMAX or PMAX, I stick with the 6". Try experimenting to see what works for you.

The type of shoes you wear could also make a huge impact, but I'm not much help in that dept. - sorry. Also, try making sure that you're FULLY stretched in your warm-up and cooldown. I usually add extra stretches (especially quads) to help with the knees. Hope this helped a bit! Good luck!

Sarah :)

If impact itself isn't the problem, it may be torque. Try limiting the number of 180-degree and 360-degree moves you use (ricochets, figure eights) for a while and see if that helps.
