knee pain and freestyling

Wanted to get some advice from this educated crowd about some knee pain I'm having. I have been doing freestyle training for 3 weeks now. I'm using George Snyder book(Freestyle Methods) which I love and I'm starting to see some nice results. My right knee hurts when I have it back when I'm doing lunges, but the weird thing is it only hurts for the first few reps then it is like I streched it out and the soreness goes away. I'm only using 5lb dumbells when I'm doing the lunges. I want to continue using freestyle because I am seeing results, but I'm also afraid I could be messing my knee up. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do help the soreness? Maybe I should take a week off and see what happens when I start up again. Thanks for the advice!

As a freestyler...I'd say don't do the lunges that hurt your knee for about a week. Just do the other exercises and when you go back to lunges do them without any weight and see how that feels. I believe you will still get results without using the lunges that hurt!....:)...Carole

Carole,
Thanks for your response. I was hoping you would chime in since you seem to be an expert on this. It seems that it gets sore when I do almost all kind of the lunges except the side lunge and the inner thigh lunge. I'm thinking the cross-over lunge might have been the culprit and I stopped doing them few days ago, but I still fell it on front and reverse lunges. I hate to give up the front and reverse lunge.

Cinnamon...I think you could be right as crossover lunges can be tricky. I think if you just wait a bit before trying the lunges, doing the reverse lunge might be a good one to try first....:)...Carole
