Kitty's at the Vet....

Well, I just got back from the vet after dropping off one of our cats...He's been acting funny the past couple of days, licking "it" alot, squatting where he isn't supposed to (and nothing happening) and this morning seemed like he was in pain...So off we go...

He's go crystals in his urine (which I guess isn't abnormal for male cats??)...It's not the food I'm feeding, in fact, the vet was going to recommend what he's eating now (Science Diet)...Should be able to bring him home on Tuesday, though...And things are going well (at least the last I heard)...

Anybody else have this happen???

No, MJ, no experience with this one. I'll be thinking about you and your kitty!! Glad to hear the vet isn't tremendously concerned at this point, if you can bring him home on Tuesday.

My cats and I are sendiing healing thoughts to kitty!
Some cats are more prone than others to urinary crystals, and in males, it can be very serious, and even fatal (because the entire urinary passage is blocked, whereas in females, some urine can come out).

It's good you got him to the vet.

My cat Scooter had this problem once when he was young: he had to be catheterized and stay at the vets for a couple of days. I went to visit him when he was there, and he wan't happy to stay!

There are some special foods out there especially for avoiding this type of thing. Or if your cat is prone to it, he might have to take medication (I think it acidifies the urine and helps keep crystals from forming).

Do you ever feed you cat tuna? Sometimes canned fish can contribute to the problem (I think, unless I'm misremembering).
