My BFF and I found 5 kittens today, in a neighbor's back yard. Knowing all the animal lovers we have on the boards, I figured I'd share a picture or 2.
I'm keeping 2, BFF is keeping 2 and another friend/neighbor is taking the 5th.

I haven't been able to get one picture so you can see all 5, but you get the idea!
Cuties!

Catherine, we're trying to figure that out. We wouldn't have taken even the first one, but he was in the middle of the yard, almost totally hidden by the grass, which was getting cut TODAY! We scooped him up first and took care of him for a few hours. Then we got thinking that where there's ONE kitten, there are MORE. So we went back to the area we found the first and heard more meow-ing. Sure enough, 4 more kittens, all in the grass, spread out. We've put the word out with neighbors to keep an eye out, so we'll all be watching over the next few days to see if the mother returns. I really felt badly about taking them away, but the last thing I was going to do was leave them there, in the open, waiting for the mower blades.

Aw, I had to look at this thread, I love kittens! they are so cute looking and I'm glad that they all found a home!:) give 'em all big smooches for me! hehe:D

They're so cute. I hope you find the mom. Bottle feeding kittens is a lot of work. But they do grow up to be great pets.

Gayle, how wonderful of you to give them a home!! Do you have any other pets? Get lots of pictures because they grow up fast! Enjoy!

Don't forget to get them checked out by your vet. :D

I am so glad you found them and so glad they all found homes. Maybe someone dumped them there? It is odd they would be spread out and not all together in one place. I think Mom would have left them together. Anyway congratulations. You can watch kittens play all day!

They are sooooo cute. They are so much smaller than the one I found. Vet told us ours is about 3-4 months old. We figured the owner let them ween off the mother before they abandoned them. (how thoughtful )
And the ones in our neighborhood were spread out not together.

They're lucky your found them! Hopefully, their mother is out there somewhere, but, if not, they are in good hands! 5 more strays saved from starvation and cold (it is coming), and possibly the pound and euthanasia!

Keep us up to date on how they are doing! They are so adorable!

I'm so glad you found them before the mower did..what a horrible thought! They're so adorable!! :) Our vet has 5 kittens about that size that were brought in by a DairyQueen employee..she found them in their dumpster..ugh! I know it shouldn't surprise me b/c stuff like that happens everyday unfortunately. I'm just glad that they are going to have safe and loving homes..have fun! :)

It's a good thing you found them when you did. I'd hate to think what would have happened :( I hope they all do well!! Keep us posted.

What cuties!
I hope the mom is alright (outdoor cats have so many dangers to contend with).
Glad you rescued them before the mower got to them...and extra glad you found them homes!
So which two are you keeping? (Sure you can't make that 3? LOL!)

They are just precious! You are a beautiful person for taking them in and caring for them.... The poor mom - something must have happened. Mom kitties never abandon their babies of their own free will, I would think :(

UPDATE UPDATE!!!!!

Update on these 5 PRECIOUS kittens!!!

We had a scare last night with my other cat, Valentine. He's a house cat that we got as a stray about 3 years ago, completely declawed (front and back) and an AWESOME laid-back cat. He likes to go outside every now and then to play in the weeds and my veggie garden. Well, last night, after the super exciting day of finding these kittens, my neighbor comes over at 9pm saying she heard some really bad, LOUD, cat fight and wanted to check on my Valentine. We ran outside and found him scared to death in my garden. He was laying in my huge pumpkin vine and when we shoo-ed him out, there were patches of his hair and some cat poop there, and a LOT of the pumpkin vine and flowers had been trampled. We checked Valentine out and he was okay, no obvious bites, blood, missing hair, etc, but we had him checked out today anyway and the vet confirmed he's fine.

OK, sorry to ramble!

In talking with other neighbors, I heard that there have been sightings of FOXES and a COYOTE in our area last WEEK!!!!! That's NEVER happened. Some reported their outdoor cats missing! I'm so sad and scared at the same time!!! I'm thinking the mom of these kittens met up with something terrible. We've all been keeping an eye out for her all day, but nobody has seen her come to the area where we found the kittens.

Again, I'm sorry to ramble.

And to answer the question on which ones we're keeping. My boys and I are keeping the calico, named Smithers and one of the black ones, who we named Cocoa.

p.s. My BFF and I have made appointments to get all 5 kittens to the vet to get them all set and vaccinated.
