Kitchen disasters.....

I tiled my kitchen a couple months and used a white/cream colored grout to go along with the light blue tiles. The other night I dropped a full bottle of Olive Oil and it broke and seems to have seeped into the grout. It has slightly stained it making it darker! Now its not as light as it was, has anyone ever done this? any chance it will ever come out? How?

One thing I've discovered is that kitchen grout will stain even after it has cured. I know, it's a bummer. I have some darkened areas on mine and I have no idea what it's from, but I've never found anything that will take it out completely.:-(

Thanks Michele. I do believe I am stuck with it. What a mess to clean up! I saw the bottle slip out of my hands in slow motion like you see in the movies and I screamed...noooooooooooo! UGH!
Oh well I guess I "re-grouted" my kitchen....olive green, LOL

LOL!! I told myself that it goes with my style of decorating--many of my household furnishings have a slightly distressed finish/appearance. ;) :D

Isn't it a bummer that real life houses just can't look like the ones on TV! These things happen when you live in a place and there is just no getting around it. Ugh!

I'm not sure if it will help, but you could try a Clorox bleach pen. It's shaped like a pen and has concentrated bleach cream inside. I used it on my light gray grout to get out red wine barf! Worked like a charm...

You should be able to find it at Target or Walmart by the cleaning supplies.

This might seem like a stupid experiment, but bear with me.

Oil floats on water so puddle some hot water with a little bleach on top of the stained area and leave it for a while, the hot water maybe will displace the oil that has soaked into the grout.

Another cleaning product is muriatic acid which lifts oil stains off of concrete.

This sounds like an interesting story:p

my friend got a little too tipsy at MY bachelorette party. Luckily it was in my toliet room and she cleaned it up for the most part, but didn't tell me. I went to bed at 3am and discovered the red stains all over the walls and grout! Bleach pen and clorox wipes got it right out. And then of course I painted as soon as possible!

I have to say, when ever I have a question or problem, no matter how weird, unique or complex I can be assured someone here has been there, done it, or has an answer for me LOL!!!! All great ideas! Thank you.

Just one question, I considered using bleach and now that I can use that pen it will make for smaller mess but will bleach hurt the actual tiles?

I don't think it should. Your tiles "should" have a glaze over them so I would imagine they can stand up to "normal" cleaning products.

from the clorox website "The Clorox¢ç Bleach Pen¢ç lets you target stains directly on tile, grout, caulking and porcelain. It¡¯s perfect for removing stains from the white areas of your striped, floral, and patterned clothes because you put the bleach exactly where you want it."

Sorry - I know this is a late response, but... Stanley Steemer (carpet cleaners) - also do tile and grout! We had our grout cleaned and now we put a grout sealer on it once a year.

Good Luck!

QVC sells some kind of grout refurbisher that will renew old or stained grout. You can even use it to change your grout color, because it's a permanent color, and it seals the grout so there will be no more stains. I don't remember what it's called, but search at www.qvc.com under "grout" and I'm sure you'll find it.
