kickmax and carpet

I did kickmax two night ago. I excerise in my livingroom, which is carpetted. This was tough on my knees and ankles from twisting on the carpet with my sneakers. Does anyone have any suggestions? I loved the workout, but not at the expense of hurting my knees and ankles. Does anyone do this video barefoot?

Hello luv2tri...

I do KickMax on carpet also and never barefooted. I don't think my joints could take that. What I do is when she is turning, I stay in one spot and just so the three knees and then kick. I don't think it takes away from the intensity at all. I also don't do pivot turns.

Ditto w/ Jane... Its mainly about HR in those areas and I do whatever I can safely do to keep that part up.
Never barefoot for me! Just not safe IMO

Last year, before I moved into our new house, I had to workout on carpeted floor in our living room, too... it can be a pain!!! I hated it, but I found something that worked well for me... it sounds a little goofy...

You know those hard, plastic mats (usually clear) that you stick under office chairs so that they can roll easily? Well, I found that placing one of those mats on the carpeted floor really did the trick. But it has to be the hard plastic ones, not plastic "runners" that you can roll up. Anyway, the hard plastic mats are not too pricey... Office Depot has several for under $50... and I thought it worked perfectly. Plus, they're portable, so you can just put them away when you're done.

Just thought I'd toss in my two cents since I'd gone thru the very same predicament!! :)

All I have is carpeting to workout on, whether it's kickmax, step or whatever. I ended up realizing that the friction was really stressing my ankles mostly, so I investing in puzzle mats. I got them at Sam's Club for $19 for enough to cover 4'x4'. They really helped with the pivot turns and stuff, but I really had a problem with the mats sliding on the carpeting. I tried to place weights on the corners, but that just succeeded in pulling the seams apart when the mats slid. Back to the store and I found an area rug anti-slip mat that works WONDERFUL under the puzzle mats!!!

Not only are the pivot turns easier, but so are the high impact stuff like the tuck jumps, air jacks and plie' jacks.

I've heard of people wrapping a bit of duct tape around the forefoot of their shoes (not the entire bottom of the shoe, or it's too slippery) to help with pivots on carpet.

Puzzle mats are a great idea, for pivots as well as impact absorption(especially if the carpet is over cement rather than wood).
