Kickboxing + Handgrips + Shoulder problems

Does anyone here know if wearing weighted handgrips (or boxing gloves) while doing kickboxing will aggrivate shoulder tendonitis? I have been thinking of buying the weighted gloves to add a little umph to some of my kickboxing workouts, but I wasn't sure if that was a good idea given the speed of the movments (punches) and the fact that I have chronic tendonitis in my shoulders (from swimming not kickboxing). I just don't want to do something that will make it worse.

Given your existing shoulder problems, IMHO adding weighted grips is the worst thing you could do, and you're very wise to ask this question. Adding weight to the end of the lever increases the momentum of the movement, momentum that you may not be able to control especially on the return of the limb to starting position.

I'd say nix on the weighted grips; I'd never use them either, and I have no chronic shoulder problems to worry about.

Thank you A-Jock, that was what my common sense was telling me but I needed to hear it from someone else. :)

I also agree. Seeing that your chonic tendonitis was from *kickboxing* and swimming, I wouldn't add weight to the same movement that gave you problems in the first place.
