Kickboxing for beginners

I'm seeking the expert advice of my friends in fitness. What kickboxing DVD would you recommend for someone who has zero experience with this type of w/o?

Thanks so much:) :) :)

Michele

I would say kpc because she runs through how to do the kicks and punches in the beginning. It's a long w/o but there are shorter premixes on it.

I would also say ctx kickbox because it's a nice short w/o. Great for a beginner.

Maybe you can do the w/u of kpc to learn the kicking and punching and then do ctx k/b since it's short???

Just a thought!:)

For a true beginner, I would suggest one of the TAE BO workouts and then move on to Cathe.

Hi Michele,

I suggest CTX Kickbox (on disk 2) for beginners and intermediate (30 min. long). It is awsome and fun! Just go all out with it and you will be surprised how much your heart rate gets up there. It's also great for the abs. You use your abs a lot just to do the w/o.

I suggest the TAEBO basic live workouts (30 minutes each workout).

Mariángeles a spanish terminator and TAEBO junkie. :) :)

Many thanks to all of you! I was just previewing the CTX DVD and it looks like something I'd enjoy.

So now I have another question. The only Cathe DVD's I have are BS&BF, HSC, LIS, and TBS. I want to kick up the weight training (something I'm good at). Is the CTX a good DVD for that? I want to take advantage of the presale and what I want the most are weight training, both for strength and endurance.

Thanks again. I wouldn't dream of making this decision without consulting you all!!

Michele

Michele,

IMHO, CTX is geared more towards cardio but has two of the best workouts with weights Cathe has ever produced...Leaner Legs (LL) and the Upper Body Split sections are fantastic! Even though the DVD is expensive, I would suggest you purchase it in lieu of the tapes. THis was my very first Cathe DVD four years ago and a piece of it is always in a current rotation because of the versatility. :)

An awesome endurance work out is Muscle Endurance and you get the infamous Boot Camp with it which is an awesome circuit work out!
The Pyramids are great too and I think they are geared towards strength. If you REALLY want strength gains it would probably be a good idea to consider Pure Strength or Slow and Heavy.

Just my 2 cents!:)

Either Kathy Smith Kickboxing, Powerstrike Millenium 3, or the instructional tape (but not workout) from Katalin Zamir (what's her system called). The last one is an excellent, 1-hour-long tutorial on form, and the others have good form pointers.

IMO, none of Cathe's kickboxing workouts are appropriate for beginners, as they presume a certain level of skill for safety.

Although it's not a Cathe workout, I would recommend Kathy Smith's Kickbox workout for a beginner. She's very good at showing the moves and also lots of modifications if you're not yet ready to go all out.

Thanks again everybody. Hey Shelley and Kathryn, I'm looking at collage for some of the Tae Bo, Kathy Smith, and Powerstrike kickboxing DVD's. Also, Wendy and Candi, you've given me some good choices for weights. Now, how to choose? So many DVD's---so little moola. LOL!
