RE: kick-boxing gloves

Hi Fit Chick,
If you go to www.JanisSaffell.com she has 2 & 4 pound weighted gloves. The 2# are for females and 4# are for males. I got mine a couple of months ago and I absolutely love them, I use them with Cardio Kicks all the time.

You will definately get an intense upper body work out:)

Now Cathe needs to make another kick-boxing video so I can use my gloves more ;-) :) ;-)

Just to add in about the funny faces and jumpy guy....when you start a thread or reply to a post, you will see the words "emotion icon short cuts" right above where it says "your message".

Just click on the emotion icon short cuts and you will see how to create a whole list of faces you can make.

RE: kick-boxing gloves

I had wanted to use my 1.5 lb (each hand) gloves with a cardio kickboxing tape (TaeBo) to give me a better upper body workout, but had been scared off by people advising you could injure yourself that way. I assume you all have had no problems?

RE: kick-boxing gloves

Kathy,
I'd be careful about doing too much to soon. I got elbow tendonitis after overdoing on the 1# gloves. Another thing to look out for would be shoulder strain. Since E=mc2, the amount of stress (e = energy) on your body would be equal to mass (m) (weight of gloves) times speed (c = something to that effect!. To avoid adding too much stress at once, I'd recommend doing maybe 1/2 the workout with gloves and/or slowing down punches a bit--most of the videos I've seen using gloves are slower paced.

RE: kick-boxing gloves

Hi KathyL,
I have not had any problems so far while using my weighted gloves. You should start out slowly and pay a lot of attention to your form and punches. Cathe is really good about her instructions and not locking out your arms while doing punches.
Kathryn gave a good suggestion of just using the gloves for one half of the video. Another would be not to to give 100% to the punches at first until you have used the gloves for a while.

You will notice a difference in the workout when you use the gloves, the intensity is higher. Take it slow and enjoy.
