Waves to all. Have a Terrific Tuesday.

good morning

Rhonda: have a great day! good job getting a workout in this morning!

Melissa: was thinking of reading the potatoe peel pie society was it good?

I felt like just doing swings today. Resolution really wears me out! (that's why I only do 5 days of working out on resolution weeks!;)) here is my workout for today:

METALHEAD
from bulldog crossfit

5 rounds:
10 pullups
50 swings

added my own tabata jumprope afterwards

notes:
**used 35#kb
*h2h swings for first two rounds
alternated: 10 right/10 left twice (40) then h2h for the last 10 for the last 3 rounds
**time: 11:15
....wondering if doing the swings h2h vs 2handed makes a difference in my time.
....wanted to do h2h or one handed swings today, have been doing all 2 handed swings lately.

have a great day everyone!!!

Good morning!

Rhonda - Great early morning workout! Sounds like you got some sleep. I can totally sympathize with you on the nodding off during meetings. I have to sit through day long meetings every quarter or so (used to be every month ) and they just kill me, especially after lunch time.

Deanie - I hope for your sake that you don't get picked for jury duty, but I have to agree with Melissa that I rather have someone like you on a jury. :) FWIW, I served on a jury years ago and it was kinda fun. The case we did had sex, guns, a car chase...more exciting than my regular job at the time. :D

I think I'm going to cave and get PTTP.

Jane - I hope you got a good swim in. I'm glad you didn't see much of Claudette and that your outage was short. When DH and I bought our house 12 years ago, most of our power lines ran through a wooded swamp and the power seemed to go out every time the wind blew. The power guys had to go out on ATV's to fix them. Needless to say, our first major purchase was a generator. :D

Melissa - I hope DS's ear gets better. I've never dealt with with swimmers ear myself, but my niece and nephew are both susceptible to it (and other ear stuff) and both had tubes put in their ears a few years ago.

Waves hello to Marcy, Tammy and Laura!

I'm also trying to figure out some fitness goals. I really want to work deadlifts regularly again, but I'm also really intrigued by something called Max Effort Black Box (MEBB). It's another wacky CrossFit programming tweak where the WOD includes a heavy weight exercise at max effort (like squat, presses, oly lift, etc) and a shortish CF WOD. I think I can combine the two effectively, but really need to get something on paper in order to wrap my brain around it.

Last night I did deadlifts. I kinda messed the weight up on the last few sets. That bar felt heavy!

7-5-3-7-5-3

Have a great day ladies!

ETA: Deanie - I like the looks of Metalhead!

ETA: Deanie - I like the looks of Metalhead!

Gayle: YES! Cave!! LOL!! :p:) I want to do the program, just need some motivation! You will not be sorry!! I like it better than the rachel cosgrove because it is so simple. 2 exercises (dl and a press - i will do the military press), 2 sets, and never to failure. I have been reading the dd forums and this routine does give you strength!! the crossfit program is pttp, with a metcon thrown in ( which i prob. need the "cardio" aspect too) . but the book is awesome. my favorite chapter for laughs, but its right!, is the gloves, mirrors and shoes chapter!!

metalhead: ironically my ipod, on the shuffle option, played guns and roses twice and queen!!! funny because i have 80ish songs and only about 10-15 are oldies!!LOL

also, great deadlifts yesterday. great weight for not pulling in a while!!:)

Hi Everyone!!

I enjoyed my swim in the drizzly rain last tonight.

I was going to go running this afternoon but I may go swimming again. My sister (who I go running with) has tightness in her hip so I thought I could do this Crossfit WOD.

Swim-Push up-Swings
Swim 2 Laps
30 Push ups
21 Swings
Swim 4 Laps
25 Push ups
15 Swings
Swim 6 Laps
20 Push ups
9 Swings

Then just swim some laps.

My pool time will be going away in a couple of months so I want to get in as much pool time as I can. I really like how swimming has slimmed my core and defined my shoulders.

Deanie ~ LOVED your Metalhead workout today!

Rhonda ~ Good job on Providence today!

Gayle ~ Hope you get your workouts figured out. Great job on the deadlifts.

Melissa ~ I hope your DS is feeling better today. Even with ear plugs I get water in my ear. :(

Waves hello to the rest of the crew.

Good Afternoon!

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday. I had another day off. Here's my workouts from yesterday and today:

I did Tone It Up yesterday and had a great workout:

1:08:01
Time in Zone: 44:38
Avg HR: 132; Max HR: 164; Cals. Burned: 428

This is the highest calorie burn I've had. Equivalent for me to an IMAX 3 workout! My heart rate got in the 90s! I upped my weights on almost everything:

1st reverse lunge series - did with 5# weights instead of no weights and did squats with front raise - 5#
Lat pullbacks - 8#; back rows and 1-arm rows - 10#
2-count delt rows, upright rows, curls, squat with hammer curls and front raise pullbacks - 8#
Plie squats with crossovers, chest pulls and chest press - 10#
kickbacks with squat - 8#
Lunge series - 8#
Front/side/rear delt raise - 8# (tough!)
rotator cuff/W press and narrow squats - 5#
Chest flies, chest press and tricep press - 10#
Tricep extensions with pelvic tucks- 8#
Leg work - 5# ankle weights (1st time with 5# - up 2#)

Also did 1/2 of blast 1 from IMAX 3.

Today was Shape It Up. I increased weights again:

Squat Series - 10# (up 2#); deadlifts - 12# (up 2#).
Midsection series - 2# except for isolations which were non-weighted.
Chest pullups and presses - 8# (up 1#) Chest pullups are always tough for me.
Upright rows - 8#; bent over rows - 10#
Midsection - 2# for jabs
Arnold press, military press and rear delt raise - 8# (didn't finish double time military presses)
Leg series - used 5# ankle weights (up 2#)
Bicep curls and kickbacks - 8#
Quad series - 5# ankle weights (up 2#)
Chest - Flies and Presses - started with 10s and went down to 8s (those half presses are killer!)
Pullovers - 8#
Didn't get to last arm series.

1:18:31
Time in zone: 36:50
Avg HR: 113; Max HR: 152; Cals burned: 366 - 10 less calories burned than last week. Hmm? Weird, since I used heavier weights. Maybe because I skipped a few reps here and there because of the heavier weights. Tone It Up is shorter but had much more of a calorie burn. I know my HR goes way down when it comes to the floor leg exercises.

Rhonda - Good job on Providence!:D

Deanie - Good job on doing Resolution with less rests!:D I can't believe you're swinging 53#! I hope you don't get picked for jury duty. They certainly make things difficult. The rules are no different in NY. Haven't gotten picked down here yet.

Gayle - The Rumba workshop was fun! Small class, only 6 of us and everyone at around the same level so we were able to get a lot accomplished. Great job on the deadlifts!:D Your jury duty case sounds like an action movie!

Jane - Congratulations on your results! I used to love swimming but it's been a long while since I've been able to. Do you do any butterfly or only crawl?

Melissa - Yes, we were talking about Eoin and no, I haven't been able to fit in yoga with Slim Series but I really do miss it. I'll probably do Slim Series for another 2-3 weeks and then hopefully get back to doing one practice a week.
I haven't done Bryan in a long time but he is good. Here's an excerpt from WebMD about swimmer's ear. Hope it helps:

Waves to everyone!

Marcy

Marcy - I just do the crawl. I know how to do the other "strokes" but I'm not as proficient in them as I am with the crawl. Sometimes I do the backstroke but it's usually crawl, backstroke, crawl, backstroke.

Last night I was mixing it up by doing 4 fast laps, 2 slower laps, 4 fast laps, etc.

Great workout today!!

Gayle: YES! Cave!! LOL!! :p:) I want to do the program, just need some motivation! You will not be sorry!! I like it better than the rachel cosgrove because it is so simple. 2 exercises (dl and a press - i will do the military press), 2 sets, and never to failure. Deanie - I caved. :) I *might* get it by Friday.

Marcy!! missed ya! sounds like you are taking some time back- nice!! great job with your workouts:)

Jane:: how come you only have afew more weeks of swiming? are you using an outdoor pool? I know all the strokes also, but also always end up doing the crawl.

Gayle: (happy dance;))

Deanie ~ I'm using an outdoor pool in my friend's backyard so once it gets colder....:(. We'll probably have another month or so of warm weather. The first time we swam was in March...brrr...it was cold but not too bad.

My sister and I are trying to talk her into getting her pool heated. She said swimming regularly in the morning has really helped her knees.
