~~~~~~KETTLEBELLS Monday, July 20~~~~~~
Hi Melissa
Hope you had a wonderful holiday. Good luck with SIM today.
Today was the following:
100 high knees
22 snatches (11 each side)
100 high knees
22 swings (11 each side)
100 high knees
22 pushups
100 high knees
22 jump squats
100 high knees
4x through the circuit. I had 30-35 second rest between circuits and I was flagging towards the end. Did some measurements last night and I wasn't very pleased with my results. Trying really hard to clean up my diet.
Waves to all the girls. I really should look into buying that SIM workout that you use. Sounds fun.
Have good days.
Love
Laura
Good Morning!!
Melissa::: WELCOME BACK!! sounds like you had a wonderful vacation!! Enjoy SIM today! I like your new avitar, is that from vacation?
Laura::: I like your workout today!
Gayle::: Great job on the WOD from Crossfit! Sorry about your barbell!!:( I have that workout on my list of "to-do's"
Jane::: great workouts this weekned!
Rhonda::: Glad you liked Public Enemy. I love Johnny Depp!! Are you still enjoying your KM class?
We took my DS13 to camp yesterday. He goes to the Naval Academy (in Annapolis) to the baseball camp. They are coached by the Naval Academy baseball coaches, and there are also Leadership seminars at night. They get to sleep in the dorms at the Naval Academy. He is there with 3 of his best buddies, and they are all rooming together! He called last night and said he did great on his hitting (what they worked on yesterday) and he is having fun!!:):)... love cell phones (he doesn't have one, but his friend does so he calls us) when we went to overnight camp, there were no phone privilages, so our parents would just hope we were having fun. Now I know he's having a blast and I'm so happy!!!
Not sure if I am happy with todays workout or not. I did Resolution I, which is a great wrokout, and I enjoyed it, but wasn't sure when or wether to end it... at 30 min? ...at the 8 rounds? or should I have dropped weights and continued????? well, anyway, here is the post from my blog:
Resolution I
barbell press 55#
swings 24kg (53#)
set gymboss for 30 minutes:
8 rounds completed
1-2 minute rest between rounds
5:44 minutes left on gymboss
14,920 pounds moved
NOTES:
*was aiming for 5-7 rounds and got thru 8, could maybe have done one more??:confused:
* raised weights for both the press and swing. These weights were challenging, will stay with them for a while.
*not sure if I should have stopped or tried one more set or dropped weights and finished 10 rounds....
....so I stopped, and now I have a challenge for next time....:confused:
Waves to everyone else! I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Good morning!
Melissa - Welcome back! Sounds like you had a great vacation. Is that you in your avatar?
Deanie - DS's camp sounds great. Nice workout! It's hard hard to figure out where to tweak a workout sometimes, or if you should. Does the AOS forum have any guidance on that?
Laura - Nice workouts! I really want to get a rower. Do you have your own, or do you use one at the gym?
Jane - I'm with Rhonda...you are Super Woman after this weekend's workouts!
Rhonda - Glad to hear you liked Public Enemies, that's on my "to see" list.
Hi Marcy, Andilynn, and Tammy!
I had an eventful WOD yesterday. Here are the details from my blog and a pic of my bent barbell is at the bottom (laid it against the straight edge of yoga mat):
WOD from CrossFit 603 - http://www.crossfit603.com/2009/07/by-five/
My mods in red
5 rounds for time
  • 25 DARC (alternating) KB swings (16k)
  • 20 sit-ups
  • 15 pull-ups - jumping pull ups
  • 10 push-presses (95/65#) - 65# barbell round 1, 25# dumbbells rounds 2-5...see note *. :eek:
  • 5 ring dips - assisted with a box
* It's important to know that a D.A.R.C. swing is one in which you release the KB at the top of the swing with one hand, and catch it with the other.
This went great in round 1, however at about rep 10 in round 2, I missed the catch and the 16kg KB crashed smack dab in the middle of my loaded barbell. Being just a 1" standard barbell from Sears, it did as expected and bent...hence the switch to dumbbells for rounds 2-5.
Time - 28:51...phbbbt.
Hi everyone. Just checking in because ..IDK..have not even exercised yet. I take that back. I did just use my wrist muscles to cut up an old pair of isotoners. Gonna try to swing with these on.
Gayle- Loved your wabbit comment. I saw two of those little suckers this morning. I got gangsta ( channeling Johnny Depp) and blasted them with my hose. Maybe I will go get a super soaker. Is that animal cruelty?
Please no one call PETA on me.
OMG. Glad the KB didn't land on your foot. When I first glanced and saw the bent barbell, I thought it was another crazy titled xfit workout.
Deanie- If you felt as though you got a good workout then fine. If not then hit it a little harder tomorrow. Glad DS is enjoying camp. KM class is fun! This weekend we worked on defending ourselves against knife attacks. We did a monkey in the middle and the four people outside the circle would hold the pad while you kicked or punched or one would come up and choke you. You had to break out of the choke and defend yourself and then go back to kicking and punching. It was tiring but fun.
Laura- Great workout. I am with you on the diet cleanup. I am not trying to go crazy though. I am just being more mindful of what I eat and cutting down on sweets.
Melissa- Welcome back! Does DH still have the same opinion about palm trees?
Tammy- How was your visit with DS this weekend?
Waves to Jane and Marcy and Andilynn and anyone else I forgot.BBL.
Hi Everyone!
Today is a rest day for me although I may hit the pool to float around and just relax.
Gayle ~ :):):) regarding your barbell. Just be happy it wasn't a part of your body. My sister clocked herself in the head but was fine afterwards (she has a hard head).
Deanie ~ I'm glad DS is enjoying baseball camp.
Laura ~ I like your workouts! I have been cleaning up my diet for the last couple of months and I'm really starting to see good changes overall.
Waves hello to the rest of the crew!!
Time for my Afternoon Confession
So I did the warmup from Providence and proceeded to do Newport. Not! :confused:I did rounds 1 and 2 and by round 3 I was spent. I laid on the floor to see if my spirit would float back into my body. I think it did so I am going to do Providence in a few hours.
The plan on KB days is to do at least two rounds of Newport and try to increase by a round or two each week.
Jane- Enjoy your float. Glad you and your dad got a chance to enjoy the game together.
Hey guys! :) I tried, but could not do anything more than walking to the garage to open the door. I can't believe how tired I still am from the drive back! :confused: I am going to have to wait until tomorrow to workout.
Yes, that is me on vacation in the avatar. I debated even putting it up because it seems so... I guess vain the best word (someone posting a picture of themselves in a bikini, gag me!), but when I looked through the pictures DH took of our time at the beach my jaw could have hit the floor - I could not believe what I look like! I could have cried - not that how I look is so important, but because I actually thought I look good and it's amazing that I thought that about myself. I am sorta proud of all that hard work and what it's done.
:D
Gayle, I am so sorry about your BB!!! I am so happy it wasn't you, though. Otherwise, it looked like a kick butt workout!
Lauren, please don't feel down on yourself. I had a really hard time cleaning up my diet, especially being married to someone who doesn't really care about health. Just hang in there! Don't worry so much about how you look - if you can finish 4 rounds of that workout you are headed in the right direction to feeling healthy and happy and having more energy and stamina... all the rest follows. :)
Deanie, I am seriously jealous of you DS! That sounds like SO much fun - he must be in Heaven right now - LOL about not having phones back when because most kids were happy their parents couldn't get in touch with them :eek: I am buying Diva to do tomorrow, BTW. Thanks for helping me out there (my DH, not so much thanks ;))
Rhonda, sweets are killers, aren't they? You think that you are doing great, and then someone walks in with some doughnuts, or pecan pie, or brownies, or cherry tarts, or white chocolate chip cookies... why does it taste so good to be so bad?
Not sure what I said about DH and palm trees (I'm too tired to go back and look, and I can't think of anything he's said) but the kids were really excited. They kept looking for coconuts, lol. We actually had a lime tree at the house we were staying in and a couple of limes came home with us. I am going to make some lime/cilantro rice!!! Yum - OOOOOO!!!
You must have a ton of fun at your KM classes!
Jane, enjoy your rest! I imagine you are welcoming one after a week sleeping in a bed that's not your own.
Marcy, how's it going?
DH just took the kids out for pizza so that I could have a few moments of quiet (I just got back from Half Priced Books and got some C.S. Lewis I really want to read). He is going to take them to see Up afterwards, and I really want to go - really I do - but I am having a hard time finding the motivation to get up and drive anywhere... it's so quiet in the house now!!! I don't want to eat any popcorn, either, but I know as soon as I walk through the doors the smell will assault all of my senses and render me helpless to stop from getting a bucket drenched in butter and then eating the whole darned thing. Curse you theater popcorn!!!
Hope everyone is having a great day! :)
Melissa
Melissa - If I looked that good in a bikini, I'd make it my avatar, too! Don't feel vain, we know how freakin' hard you work to get there! :)
Good Afternoon!
I did Tone It Up today from Slim Series. I used 5# for back, shoulders & bis and 8# for chest & tris. I finally got a battery for my heart rate monitor. My HR really stays up for these workouts. I guess because I don't need to take any rests. They just fly by.
Over the weekend, I mowed the lawn, did some weeding and did 3 rounds of pulls/chins:
1 - 1 pull; 3 chins
2 - 3 chins
3 - 1 pull; 3 chins
Saw Defiance on PPV over the weekend. Really good!
Deanie - Sounds like your DS is really enjoying camp. Great job on the deadlifts!
Melissa - Welcome back and you look great in that bikini! You should be proud of yourself! I look back at some vacation pics DH took (before I started working out again) and was horrified! EEK! I plan on doing Slim Series for about a month and I'll see where I am after that.
Farmer - Good luck with your KB plan! Sounds like a great KM class!
Laura - Great workout! If you keep doing workouts like that, I'm sure you'll see great results. I am also trying to clean up the diet. Weekdays aren't too bad but weekends I cheat a little more than I'm supposed to. DH sometimes says I eat more than him (although at least I'm only half his size!)
Gayle - Glad you're okay; sorry your barbell isn't!:(
Jane - Great swim!
Waves to Andilynn and Tami!
Marcy
Melissa ~ You look fantastic!!! You are not vain!! Keep up the good work!
Hi Everyone!
Today was my rest day :D Anyhow (and could someone please explain anyhow's to me?) I'm looking for a KB rotation...I would like to work out with KB's every day and also incorporate some cardio.
Melissa ~ Welcome back..you look fantastic..be proud!!!
Marcy ~ Great workouts!
Farmer ~ AOS Newport just kills me each and every time...keep trying! The visit with DS#1 was nice, wish he could have stayed longer.
Lioness ~ Hope you got to float around the pool :)
Gayle ~ Great job..y'all are killing me with your workouts :eek:
Deanie ~ WOW! I love reading your blog...lots to learn.
Laura ~ Nice workout...I want to look into SIM too ;)
Have a nice night everyone...back to it tomorrow for me!
Hi again!
A fun/full day of shopping!!:):) bought a new chair, curtains and a little end table at pier one today!:)
Jane:: enjoy your rest day or float in the pool!
Rhonda::: well...? did you workout with Anthony in Providence?:p;) good plan with Newport!
Melissa::: Your avitar looks great, you look great, and you should be proud!! I'm thinkin' your DH is, since he took the picture;) I'm excited you are buying DIVA tomorrow! I know you'll love it! let me know!!
Marcy:::
Great job on the chins/pullups! I've heard Defiance is a great movie, but just like with books about the Holocaust, I need to be in the right frame of mind to see those movies. Took me 2 years after Life is good to watch it!....I was lucky not to have family in Europe, but I know plenty of people who did, who didn't have grandparents like I did....
Tammy::: Hope you enjoyed your visit with your son!!
waves to everyone else,
Have a great evening!!
Tammy:
why not do
monday: Providence
tuesday and thursday: Newport
wednesday: Empire State
Friday: either Providence, Empire State mixed up option, or the manmakers on disk 2 from Empire State.
also for cardio days, you can just swing your kettlebell :::
12 minutes:
30 swings (can pick any number)
1 minute active rest ( jumping jacks, jumprope, pushups, or mountain climbers, etc)
or my personal favorite courtesy of crossfit:
death by kettlebell
top of the 1st minute 1 swing
top of the 2nd minute 2 swings
top of the 3rd minute 3 swings....
etc. continue as long as you can......
also you could do snatches on cardio days:
tomorrow I am doing
15 seconds on/15 seconds off for 20 mintues:
snatch l
snatch r
box jumps
hth!!
The only other man that makes me moan
Moan and groan that is. Anthony had me gasping and saying OMG. See if you weren't familiar with AOS, you would think I was cheating on DH:p.
I did Providence and I had to talk myself through it the whole time. I pictured you guys cheering me on. I made it and I also did a segment of CS and went to KM class.
Melissa- It's okay to need a vacation from a vacation. Riding in the car is tiring. If I looked babelicious I would put it in my avatar.
Marcy- Glad you got the HRM working. Now you can really see how you are kicking butt.
Deanie- That sounds like a nice workout.
