Kettlebell workouts

Amy Steppe

Cathlete
I bought Cathe's 8 lb kettleball.

Now I am in search of a workout that is intermediate to advanced and uses the kettlebell.

Is there any workout or workouts I should consider purchasing?

Thanks in advance,

Amy

Amy - first of all, you will want a heavier KB than that, so be prepared! A lot of people like Lauren Brooks' DVD (she only has one) and of course, Art of Strength DVDs. They have a good one that teaches form, and they also have a poster chart to refer to. Good luck, and be prepared to shell out some cash-ol-a

Thanks, Shana.

Unfortunately, I am rather strapped money wise for now.

I can always use the kettlebell as an 8 lb med ball.

Thanks so much!

Amy

8# is too light for a KB, IMO. (It's recommended that women start with 15-25#, depending on strength and condition). Some moves might require a lighter weight (like Turkish Get-ups), but then a light dumbell could be used until you build up.
Also, it looks like the medball/'KB' combos are larger than regular KB's for the same weight.

But as you said, you could use it as a med ball.

You could try some swings and other moves out yourself to see how they work, but the bell might be too light to allow for best form on swings, and too big to work in some of the moves.

Check out tutorial videos on Youtube or Anthony Diluglio's site : http://www.artofstrength.com/Videos/MinuteofStrength2008Videos/tabid/508/Default.aspx

Most KB tutorials are under "Minute of Strength 2007 videos" or "Minute of Strength 2006 videos" (choose from the left-hand menu). I suggest starting with Swings (2007 "Kettlebell swing revisited") and Turkish Get-ups, two exercises that you could do exclusively to build up skills for pretty much every other KB move).

HTH!

I wasted my money

Thanks for the input.

I seem to have wasted my money on the Kettlebell.

By the way, I bought a mat when I ordered the Kettlebell and tried it tonight.

The mat is not very tacky. I was sliding all over the place doing moves I do on my old TJ Maxx Yoga Mat.

So far I am very disappointed with almost all of my Fitness By Cathe purchases.
