i wanted to know who is doing kettlebells? For those doing them I have a few questions:

1)what dvds do you have a like/dislike?

2)is this your only way of lifting or do you do traditional lifting still?

3) what have your results been since starting KBs?

4) what size KBs do you have?

Here my answers. I have been working out with kettlebells for over 3 years.

1)what dvds do you have a like/dislike?
I don't do lots of dvds. I mainly do my own workouts. The ones I like are Art of Strength ~ Providence and Firepower and Keith Weber's The Extreme Kettlebell Cardio Workout.

2)is this your only way of lifting or do you do traditional lifting still?
No. I do one day of traditional lifting.

3) what have your results been since starting KBs?
It's hard to tell the results as I do so many different workouts. I do believe kettlebells have made me stronger and does help with cardio endurance. In January 2009 I did 200 swings a day for a month and noticed a different in overall strength and more definition in my abs and arms/shoulders.

4) what size KBs do you have?
2 - 10#
2 - 14#
2 - 18#
2 - 25#
1 - 35#
1 - 44#

I use the 44 and 35 for swings, the 25 and 18 for double armed moves and 14's for overhead the movement. I'm not sure what I have the 10's for! :p

1)what dvds do you have a like/dislike?

I LOVE AOS Providence for strength, Lauren Brooks for a more cardio based, fun routine, but also really love Newport, the downloadable workouts from AOS especially Diva and SIM (soon will add Enter the Kettlebell) that I have from the AOS site. These are the only workouts I have and I don't not like any of them. There are also some workouts that I get for free on the New Jersey crossfit site that I really enjoy. The only workouts I would buy now are the downloadables from AOS.

I did get an Iron Core DVD with the purchase with one of my bells and it was okay for instruction.

2)is this your only way of lifting or do you do traditional lifting still?

I just started doing some traditional weight lifting this fall after a long hiatus. It was my main source of strength training (besides for my legs) along with pushups and pullups from May until August. The only reason I started traditional weights again was to do something different and fight boredom, not because I was unhappy with what kb's were doing.

3) what have your results been since starting KBs?

Increased cardio capacity from swings and snatches alone which made my running time improve (then I started doing some crossfits wich helped even more), much MUCH stronger core, more upper body strength, defined upper body and abs, an overall feeling of being stronger, I feel like I get the same or better results without having to workout as long as I used to (working out for 30 minutes or less opposed to working out the length of a traditional Cathe DVD). I also really think that kb's are great for leg endurance, too, but because of my body shape I really have to kill my legs in order to see any kind of definition.

4) what size KBs do you have?

2 15#
2 20#
1 25#
1 35#
I still haven't ordered my 30# yet but it is on my wish list

ETA I have been using kb's for almost a year

1)what dvds do you have a like/dislike?
i had a few, all the iron cores, art of strength newport, both of amy's, and angie millers. of them all i liked amy's dynamics but her beginners was a good way to get used to the 'bell, newport and the iron cores. angie's wasn't the kettlebell lifting i have come to know. i traded all these and work on my own now. some videos moved to fast or slow for me and to be safe i'd rather go at my own pace and make my own routines. i still use art of strength newsletters for great ideas. i have 3 books, pavel's enter the kettlebell, lisa shaffer's book, and revolution kettlebell fat loss program with franz and yoana snideman.i use for reference and routine ideas

2)is this your only way of lifting or do you do traditional lifting still?
i do two days of 'bells and two days of barre for lower body. i keep my lower body strength but without the bulking up that my lower body has a habit of doing LOL. but for upper body i do traditional weights along with bodyweight and kettlebell upper body exercises during my kettlebell workouts.

3) what have your results been since starting KBs?
other then my legs aren't bigger then the rest of me LOL, my wrist and ankles have gotten quite strong. i know longer need a ez curl bar for bicep curls my shoulders are much stronger and my lower body is stronger. b/c of my diet i can't say i SEE results but i certainly feel it strength wise.
4) what size KBs do you have?
i have a 15 my first i used to practice moves, i have a 20 which gets my most use for cardio moves a 25 for strength moves and a 30 b/c i got a good deal buying the 25 and 30 together when i traded in a few of my barbells and my home step to play it again sports. i can barely get a rep or two out of the 30 but its my visual motivation tool, i will use the 30 one day for at least 5 reps.

have i helped any?:D

Hey Jane, if you're still reading..... we may have talked about this, but I've forgotten.... when you did the 200 swing challenge, it was 7 days a week, right?

Yes, it was 200 swings a day every day for the month of January. If you missed a day, you had to make up the swings on another day.

pink_fortitude: when you were doing kettlebells exclusively, did you feel it was working all of your muscles pretty well? I know it does wonders for the core, legs, and shoulders, but what about the chest, back, biceps, and triceps? And also, did it seem to work more your lateral delts, or did you also get development in the frontal and rear delts for a more complete shoulder workout?

I've thought about switching to a kettlebell exclusive workout--when I do the Lauren Brooks DVD, I can't help but think to myself, wow, that's the physique I want--but I've always wondered if I have to supplement with traditional weight-lifting to compensate for certain things that kettlebells may lack.

All of this, of course, assumes I can get my eating in check, since I know that's the biggest key ;).

Oh, that's right, Jane.... now I remember...... ok, I'm going to try this. So far I'm two for two (started yesterday). Thanks for the inspiration!
