This is a paragraph from one of my comps questions:

Adler, Jung, and Freud felt dream analysis was important, but differed on their views and interpretations.
For Freud, dreams were the royal road to the unconscious mind. A dream was a disguised fulfillment of a repressed wish. The use of continuous free association was a way of going from the manifest to the latent dream…For Freud, a dream never creates, it only repeats or puts together (Lombardi & Elcock, 1997, p. 572).

Adler felt that dreams were a way the individual tries to find solutions for problems (Lombardi & Elcock, 1997).
The purpose of the dream is to support and back the lifestyle against the demands of logic or common sense. Dreams are an attempt to make a bridge between an individual's lifestyle and present problems. Feelings aroused by the dream are of utmost importance (Lombardi & Elcock, 1997, p. 573).

To Jung, dream analysis was one of the foundations of the therapeutic process and dreams are viewed phenomenologically (Corsini & Wedding, 1989). "The drama of the dream is the unconscious message expressed in symbolic form, a message not necessarily repressed or hidden, but rather trying to reveal itself" (Corsini & Wedding, 1989, p. 136). Unlike Freud, Jung did not view dreams as repressed content or disguised fulfillment of a repressed wish, although, similar to Freud, he viewed them as an integral piece in understanding the individual . Adler did not view dreams as an integral part of therapy, but one of many ways to understand the individual as well as insight into the way the individual solves everyday problems.
