Remembering your post about a mat for your step, I wanted to share something with you. Yesterday I took an old yoga mat and cut it in two portions. One fits my step perfectly, the other the mini step. I particularly liked doing triceps dips without the lovely marks on my palms and the heels of my hands. I didn't do any work lying on my step but I'm optimistic it will work well and it's a perfect length minus the smaller mat for the mini step. And I recycled a mat I no longer need since I am buying an eco friendly rubber mat for yoga.

What a cool idea!
Unfortunately, that wouldn't solve my problem, because a yoga mat isn't thick enough for me to not feel the hardness of the step and the ridges in the top of my step.

I'm still using the step mat I got from Karen Voight about 8 years ago! The edges are a bit frayed (especially since one of my cats seems to like chewing on it!) but it works really nicely, has about 1/2 inch of "cush" to it, and has cut-out areas where your arms are, so it doesn't interfere with bench presses and other moves. I'll need to replace it someday, which I probably will do by visiting Karen's site again.

FYI, I saw a step mat on fitness1st.com- close out items page. I suppose it would be better to order from Karen since you know what you would be getting.

Thanks, Jordan! I think I've seen them in their catalog before, but I don't remember if they had the cut-out area for the arms, which I like. I like fitness1st , so I'll go right over there and check it out (and following Bobbi's wonderful recycling lead, if I get one, I may chop up my old one and make a mat for my high step! and maybe a "knee pad" for moves where I'm on my knees!)

You probably already went over there, but I did see both types (with & without arm cut outs). If I'm right, they were cheaper than Karen's.

Jordan, I just went to fitness1st and can't find the mat you were talking about (or a "clearance" page, just an "on sale" page with about 3 items on ). Can you give me some direction?

I linked to fitness1st.com/closeout through another search. I tried to find it again but it is no longer there, maybe they sold out. However, on fitness1st under exercise mats, there is a mat (step mat dark blue) 16x42x1/2 with cut outs. I think you can use this as a floor mat and step mat but check it out. Sorry, I'm not too good at searching.
