Hi Kathryn,

I had posted awhile back about consuming flax oil and you recommended to focus on the whole foods. Know it seems every article I read keeps going back to what you said.
The article below says the same thing....raw oils are okay once in awhile but focus on the whole foods for the good fat.

Thank you for your advice, I really did appreciate it.

What are your thoughts on coconut oil?

Thanks again,
Sham

>What are your thoughts on coconut oil?

Hi, Sham!
Glad I could help!
I'm also more and more interested in raw foods, so that Wayne dude seems right on to me!

I'm not sure about coconut oil. It is a saturated fat. Some say, now, that it contains a form of saturated fat that is beneficial.

Seeing that it is solid at room temperature, and that it is an oil and not a whole food, I personally use it only topically (makes a good massage oil, because it melts at body temperature). I do eat cocoanut, but not in large quantities. And I don't think that ADDING coconut oil to ones diet is particularly beneficial.

(Though years ago, I used to use it for making popcorn, and it's delish! Unfortunately, heating oils creates transfats, so not so good, even if it were good raw).

Thanks Kathryn.

I went to a lecture that Wayne did and it was very interesting. He also made some great Raw foods for us to sample. I don't think I could follow a raw food diet but by reading more about it, I have been incorporating more raw veggies/fruits which is a definite plus.
The goji berries and raw cacao are quite good :)!!!

I'm not sure about coconut oil either. My naturopath says that if I am frying something (which is rare) or for stovetop cooking I should use coconut oil(but she didn't say the raw form) as it is the most stable and use olive oil in its unheated form. I've also read some articles on the Mercola website that encourage the use of it as well.

Thanks again for the advice.

I like to snack on goji berries, and I just ordered some raw cocoa nibs, so I'll try those.

I definitely agree that a good portion of one's diet as raw foods is a good idea (particularly in the summer, when it's easier to get fresh produce), but I couldn't go all raw. I've increased my raw food intake lately, especially as snacks (like Lara bars, which are raw, and Vega bars, and raw nuts)and as hemp protein powder, which I use daily in my morning smooties. Since this, I've finally gotten to my goal weight (what I used to weigh before coming to my current job) and hope to lose maybe 5 more pounds (but that depends on how I look/feel--if I weigh the same but get more definition, I'm fine with that! And if I lose more and look boney, I won't go there!).
